Shaved legs, a blown out knee, and trips to medical offices with the wife

Ten days ago, I fell and totally messed up my knee. The next morning my wife and I went to our primary care doctor. As the doctor started to examine my knee my wife states that I have good looking legs. He just continues and makes no comment about an old man with shaved legs.

Next to xray … no comment.

Next trip was for a MRI. Two techs are setting me up and they comment how they would not make change from my shorts, into their pants. Then they start to comment on my tan … on my legs.

As I went to the surgeon, the xray tech is silent.

The nurse comments that I did not need to shave yet. She then talks about leg shaving with my wife and I. She says it is a pain.

The doctor comes in and my wife again comments that I have good looking legs and to not mess them up. He remarks about how that any scars typically disappear after a few months.

As we get home, a neighbor wants to talk and to find out what the doctors have said. My wife just says that I have better legs than her as the neighbor is touching my leg.

As my daughter is at our house to check up on me, she helps with the brace .

I have shaved my legs for approx. Five years... Year round. I can guarantee that several people have now been close enough to ensure that it is noticed.

Physical therapy starts tomorrow with a good friend of my wife.

I have to admit that I have feared some of these encounters....but it has been nice for the wife to step in to make sure that this ok wiith her.

I hope your knee feels better.

I don't see what the big deal is about guys who shave their legs. I shave mine for a variety of reasons, crossdressing being one. I am sure people notice and no one has said anything. While it's a bit of a pain to maintain, it has more pros than cons.

Medical personnel see many male legs. They could not care less if a guy shaves his legs or not. Over the last three years I had numerous CT scans, MRI's and examinations by doctors, nurses and technicians. I always wear shorts which hit above the knee. One resident doctor in podiatry made a comment about diabetics losing leg hair due to diabetes. Perhaps, but, I have no hair follicles on my calves and minimal (sparse) fine/light hair on my shins. No hair on my thighs. In my case it is all genetics. No underarm hair too. My wife says my hairless body is "wasted" on a guy. My daughter first asked if I shaved my legs when I was in my sixties. I asked her if that was the first time she noticed I naturally have no hair on my legs. I even wear shorts outside in the winter if the temperature is above fifty and all the time in doors. Seventy years and only two comments. No snide looks either.

Anyway, a lot of guys shave their legs and bodies. Of course, there are women who like a hairy guy and go nuts if their guy even suggests shaving.

I have used a Philips IPl laser on my legs and epilated what’s left, they are lovely and smooth.. and stay that way for weeks, guess I would have similar problems if I end up in a&e. But then the female underwear would be a much bigger giveaway 🤣

This whole episode just shows you that nobody cares if you shave your legs.
Not your neighbors, your doctor, not anyone but you.

I also agree I have had no comments regarding my shaved legs and body. I would never go back to hairy legs and body.

Years ago when I shaved my legs and chest my kids and mother ( separate occasions) called me on it. Kids.... I just like it better. Mom.... well, she didn’t see the chest, I said the leg hair grows patchy and it looked stupid . Don’t really like lying to anyone, but they really don’t need to know. I have literally had no one else mention it.

Thanks for the get well wishes …. It looks like I will end up with a knee replacement. At least I have learned two things.

    A. My wife will support me as best she can. That I like the way she did it. A compliment.
    B. Most people don't care. A few like the mmri techs have fun with it …. I liked this as well.

    Again thanks

While laid back in the dentist chair and my white shorts had hiked up a dental assistant said what nice tanned smooth legs, well the razor didn't stop there. Would have liked to have told her what the nylon white bikini panty covered was also smooth and hairless. When this happens just have to wonder what else she might be thinking? She seemed pretty turned on as she continued staring at them.

Hope your knee surgery and recovery are going well.

I’ve gone back to shaving my entire body after a fungal skin condition I have. Went berserk after my body was really stressed after I had to have my gallbladder removed.

I’m now at a point where my rash is under control again. In the hot an humid summers of Canada my body hair acts almost like a green house.

I’m going to stay fully shaved for the rest of my days.

I’m probably going to need knee surgery myself as I tore my meniscus last year.

A knee replacement will leave you with a sizable scar down the front of your knee, which while not the best look, with modern medical procedures, it is a whole lot better looking than in years gone by, and will mean you are on the road to recovery and full health again, so a small price to pay.

I have to testify that having a knee replacement will result in a thin white line down the front of your knee. However, all it takes is a light colored pair of stockings and it almost goes away.

I recently had heart surgery & for some reason my whole body had to be shaved. I hadn't shaved my usually smooth body for a couple of days before the surgery, mainly due to worry about the procedure & couldn't be bothered. A male nurse came in to shave me & I said there wasn't much to shave but he ran the electric razor over my legs, arms, groin & chest anyway as he was required to do. No mention at all by anyone in the hospital, surgeon, theatre nurses etc, who examined me. My doctor & specialist have regularly examined me & never mentioned shaved armpits or elsewhere. Just not an issue with health professionals, far more important things to think about.

Good you have so supportive a wife, JC, though I doubt it would ever have become any issue for most healthcare professionals.
