    Transformation support

Last night I went to the local Pride Center where they were sponsoring a night of Transformation. There were hair stylists and nail specialists, makeup assistance, a wig tech, a voice coach, clothing exchange and free cosmetic samples and some jewelry. They brought in food and drinks and after several hours of pampering held a runway show for those who wanted to participate. I'm guessing they had 40 or 50 transgender men and women there and enough options that no one waited too long or if they waited they had someone to talk to. I got my hair restyled, products suggested and visited the voice coach and makeup room. I've not been told I'm lovely or pretty so many times in such a short period of time and I'm still riding that wave of confidence just a little.

I can't say enough about the kinds of support that are out there for our community if we look around. It's so very different from the times when I first joined the forum. While this level of support may not be available everywhere, that it can be found in Salt Lake City says a lot for the kinds of progress that have been made. The kind of people who donated their time and talent to make this happen exist all around and are our allies if and when we can find them. Given the sorts of legislation I'm reading about these days, this was a boost to my understanding of how disconnected those lawmakers can be. The world is changing, regardless of those who want to hold it back, they will lose in the long run. I hope we all get to see that end.

Being transgender isn't a lifestyle choice. How you deal with it is.

Progress will continue, eventually. But as we saw with the stagnation in the middle eastern states since some time around the 11th century when they stopped pursuing science, sometimes progress just stops for many hundreds, or thousands of years.

There's an addendum at post # 82 on that thread, too. It's about a ten minute read.
Why don't we understand our desire to dress, behave and feel like a girl? Because from childhood, boys are told that the worst possible thing we can be, is a sissy. This feeling is so ingrained into our psyche, that we will suppress any thoughts that connect us to being or wanting to be feminine, even to the point of creating separate personalities to assign those female feelings into.

    I share your hope.

Sounds like a truly lovely evening. I have to admit, I enjoy being complimented even though my little inner voice is always questioning such compliments.

I must admit that I'm a bit surprised (but pleasantly so) to see such organized support for the community in that part of the country. I don't believe I've heard of anything like that here in Houston in the dozen or so years I've lived here. Hmmm....

That sounds like an absolutely wonderful evening. Hope someone puts a gathering like that together out here in Los Angeles.
