    A Blast From The Past

Our very own Stephanie Julianna, who also writes for my blog, has run a few nostalgic posts the past few Saturdays.

For some of the ladies here of a certain age, you may enjoy them.

For the younger girls, there are lessons to be learned here!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Stephanie. One thing in your posts that did stand out was the price of admission on Saturdays for what can be readily classified as free babysitting service for moms and dads. Where else could parents have almost an entire day to themselves for 25 cents. I remember those 25 cents Saturdays at the movies. In my area on Friday a teenager working for the local theater would come to the elementary school and hand out colorful handbills of the Saturday shows. There were different colors. On Saturday, if your handbill was the same color as the one at the box office you got in for free. I never had the right color. I never knew a kid who did have the right color. Probably a scam in itself.

It wasn't until my teenage years that I started lusting over starlets. My favorite probably was Annette Funicello. As a watcher of the Mickey Mouse Club I thought she was cute. As I got older and she got older I viewed her differently in the various "Beach Party" movies. Thanks for the memories.

One theater in my area.. 21 cents: 16 for admission and 5 for popcorn. If I didn't have the money and my folks didn't bank me, I'd search areas where I knew I could find tossed coke bottles. At a store, I could get 2 cents each, and I'd frequently get enough for a second bag of popcorn. I watched every episode, I think, of the serial "Perils of Pauline."

Kandi has been so generous to give me a voice on her blog. I loved your memories as well. I funded some of my movie trips and toy buying collecting bottles as well. I would bicycle all over the surrounding neighborhood looking for new houses being built. The carpenters were notorious for leaving soda bottles all over the build sites and if you were really lucky there were a few of the quart beer bottles which were worth an entire nickel! I also had a paper route with 50 customers that grossed about $1.50 a week. Then my brother, who had a neighboring route to mine, went to boarding school and I took his over giving me a 100 paper route. I was rich.
I have also started writing for femulate.org and I am approaching our world from a different angle so as not to be repetitive and dilute my message. I have been encouraged to be a bit more public with my writing and, as always, my goal is that, by telling my story, I might help others of our sisters in there self-understanding. And all this effort was prompted by the amazing response that I have gotten here to my threads and responses over the years. I love all the ladies here and could not imagine life without reading your wonderful posts. Love, Steph

I especially enjoyed reading of Stephanie?s GG idols. Impressive all, but my own GG idol immediately sprung to mind; Academy Award Winner, Susan Hayward. She was really an idol during the 40s and 50s, but I first saw her when NBC started airing ?Saturday Night at the Movies? during the mid 60s. Her performances left a lasting impression on me during those formative. Sadly, she passed way to young, of lung/brain cancer at age 57 in 1975.

I just this moment realized that my first wife was almost a dead ringer for Susan.

A very enjoyable read that brought back some terrific memories. Thank you both for doing what you do. My Ambassador wasn't a convertible, but it did have the 327.

Kandi, I was embarrassed to drive my mom's Rambler wagon in high school.

Until the kids found out the front seats folded all the way back to make a big bed with the back seats! That came in handy at the drive in!
