Monica Roberts, a Houston native and a major force in trans activism, died in Houston on Monday, October 5, 2020. No cause of death was immediately reported, but an article in The Advocate is now saying that she was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

I'm privileged to have known Monica, if only through the occasional interactions on projects we both contributed to. To say that she was "a force to be reckoned with" is not really accurate. She was a force, to be certain, but not at all one easily reckoned with. You always knew when she was in the room. Not many can make your Aunt Kelly look like a soft-spoken wallflower. That lady could do it every time.

Her contributions to our community were many and profound. She will be missed.
