Frank Ocean - Seigfried. Maybe not the happiest song, but definitely a really beautiful song about being misunderstood and not wanting to fit in. In a way it makes me feel understood and love myself.

    Billy Joel, 'The Stranger'.

Well we all have a face
    That we hide away forever
And we take them out and show ourselves
    When everyone has gone
Some are satin some are steel
Some are silk and some are leather
They're the faces of the stranger
But we love to try them on

Well, we all fall in love
    But we disregard the danger
Though we share so many secrets
There are some we never tell
    Why were you so surprised
That you never saw the stranger
Did you ever let your lover see
    The stranger in yourself?

Don't be afraid to try again
    Everyone goes south
    Every now and then
You've done it, why can't someone else?
    You should know by now
    You've been there yourself

    Once I used to believe
I was such a great romancer
Then I came home to a woman
    That I could not recognize
When I pressed her for a reason
    She refused to even answer
It was then I felt the stranger
Kick me right between the eyes

Well, we all fall in love
    But we disregard the danger
Though we share so many secrets
There are some we never tell
    Why were you so surprised
That you never saw the stranger
Did you ever let your lover see
    The stranger in yourself?

Don't be afraid to try again
    Everyone goes south
    Every now and then
You've done it why can't someone else?
    You should know by now
    You've been there yourself

    You may never understand
    How the stranger is inspired
    But he isn't always evil
    And he isn't always wrong
Though you drown in good intentions
You will never quench the fire
You'll give in to your desire
    When the stranger comes along.

There's an addendum at post # 82 on that thread, too. It's about a ten minute read.
Why don't we understand our desire to dress, behave and feel like a girl? Because from childhood, boys are told that the worst possible thing we can be, is a sissy. This feeling is so ingrained into our psyche, that we will suppress any thoughts that connect us to being or wanting to be feminine, even to the point of creating separate personalities to assign those female feelings into.

Star01 - In an earlier post you mentioned Mot?rhead as a band you liked. I was never heavily into that band, but I respected Lemmy?s intensity and attitude - RIP.
I like their song ?Til the End? -
?There ain?t no rules to follow
    You can?t predict tomorrow
I know myself like no one else
The rest can turn to stone?
Hopefully this will establish my credentials before I suggest some more poppy and lighter songs in this thread.

Whoops - I messed up those lyrics in my last post - so much for my credentials....

    Til the End

There ain?t no rules to follow
    You can?t predict tomorrow
I know just who my friends are
The rest can turn to stone...

On the more pop side of things, I like the Fleetwood Mac song
    Go Your Own Way

and there is also Edwin Collins
    song
Never Met a Girl Like You Before

I hadn?t thought of this song for this thread before, but as a child of the 80?s I liked The Police.
Their song ?Message in a Bottle?
    ends with the lyrics -
? I woke up this morning and can?t believe what I saw
A 100 million bottles washed up on my shore
Seems I?m not alone in being alone
A 100 million castaways looking for a home....
    Sending out an S.O.S.
    Sending out an S.O.S.
I hope that someone gets my message in a bottle ...?

The energy of the music and Sting?s voice make it not nearly as sad a song as the lyrics indicate, but somewhat hopeful - we?re not alone.

Just found myself singing, in my head, Looking at You by The Damned -

    When it happened
    Something snapped inside me
    Made me wanna hide
All alone on my own, all alone on my own
I stood up on the stand my eyes shut tight
    Didn't wanna see anybody
Feeling alright, having a good time
    Doing alright, doing alright
    Doing alright, doing alright

I saw into the dancing crowd
    Felt like screaming out loud
    I saw you standing there
Saw your long, your long hair

    Opened up my eyes baby
You made me realise what I wanna do now
All I wanna do now babe is look at you
Looking at you babe, looking at you
Looking at you, looking at you baby
    You baby
    You baby
    You baby
    You baby
    You baby
    You baby
    Yeah yeah

I saw into the dancing crowd
    Felt like screaming out loud...

I had never before thought that the lyrics could have anything to do with CDing, but I think I'll be putting a different interpretation on the song in the future.

"Do not dress in those rags for me,
for I know that you are not poor.

You don't love me quite so fiercely now,
When you know that you are not sure...

    It is your turn, beloved,
It is your flesh that I wear..."

    And how I've loved
    And I have served
    And I have sinned
    But I have learned
As long as you are true to the life that you live
This is the time to feel love
I feel a stirring deep within
    Slowly picking up momentum
Like the tide coming into shore
Over and under in it's course
    This feeling emblazed inside
    Every nerve like a firefly
    Hovering above me
    Glow glow glowing divine
    Every nerve like a firefly
    Every nerve like firefly
    This feeling emblazed inside
    Every nerve like a firefly
    I never want to loose
    What I have finally found
    There's a requiem
    A new congregation
And it's telling me go forward
And walk under a brighter sky
Every nerve glowing like a firefly

WHAT ELSE!!!!! ....brings me back to when I was a girl full time and the song would come on the radio.
I still blush today...all my friends would tease me and start singing, pretending to hug and kiss...
I got so embarrassed...but it was all in good "clean" fun.
Today, when I hear the song, it brings me back to my youth and sitting around at the park, watching the people and cars go by, listening to the boom box and hearing that song and the love my friends showed me......I still giggle...and blush.
    Candy Girl

    I've been a-searching
    All this big wide world
    Now finally I've found my
    Candy girl, candy girl
I found me a girl (candy girl)
    She sets my heart a-whirl
    (Candy girl)
    With hugging (hugging)
    And kissing (kissing)
    And loving (she's mine)
    Mine (mine) mine
Woah oh, oh oh (candy girl)
We get along so well (candy girl)
I know just why I fell (candy girl)
    She's thrilling (thrilling)
    Oh, chilling (chilling)
    Yes, she's so divine
    (She's mine)
    Mine (mine) mine
Woah oh, oh oh (candy girl)
    When we're out together
Everyone knows the way we feel
    We both seem to glow
With the glow of a love
    And it's plain to see
    (Our love is real)
I'm happy as can be (candy girl)
    She vows eternally (candy girl)
    To hold me (hold me)
    And love me (love me)
    Until the end of time
    (She's mine)
    Mine (mine) mine
Woah oh, oh oh (candy girl)
    Candy girl, candy girl
    Candy girl, candy girl
    Candy girl, candy girl...

Yes, I am closing in on 70 but I like hard rock and try to incorporate down tuning and the heavy sound of the Stoner/Doom genre in my music but the lyrics and subject are lighter. My son-in-law's band plays hard rock based in Minneapolis and tours around the upper Midwest during more normal times. They're into the down tuned type stuff as well.

I just like some of the heavy sounds in that genre. At my age I saw Elvis, the Beatles, Stones and all the rest on Ed Sullivan. For pure listening when I"m in a more mellow mood I'm a huge James Taylor fan. Fiona De Wilde who posts on this forum is a good musician and singer so I have been making my way through her Youtube videos most recently.

I don't like pop or country, it's just not my thing. Dressing en femme does not come with the obligation to have to like pop music but that seems to be the preferred genre.
