    Someone You Need to Know

I want to introduce you to a fellow "sister" who had the courage to come out in a very public way.

While I have the courage to be out in public, I do not have this type of courage.

    Kandi,

Many thanks for sharing Brennan's Story, which is a great one. I believe your courage is very similar to his.

    Best wishes!

    Kandi,

Great courage on his part, not me. Jillcder says it all, between you and this site, you have been a God send. I did have the talk 3 years ago, has helped me and
she is OK but stills doesn't understand it, neither do I. (I hadn't through thru and she didn't/doesn't have anyone to discuss this with except me and that doesn't
really help her) Still a work in progress for her, a lot better for me. Just be respectful of her, remember she didn't sign up for this.

Again Kandi, thank you, I love your new site, visit everyday.

    Wonderful article Kandi.
I too wish I had the courage that Jack has. The only part of the article that confuses me is his reference to being "queer". All my life that term has been equated to being gay and yet he refers to himself as a straight married man. I suppose I'm out of the loop these days. Labels are so varied and numerous and perhaps I'm just old school. Being married and straight and crossdresser I would never refer to myself that way.
Best wishes for him and the hope that he and others can help educate the public as to who we are.

Cheryl, I have come to understand that the word queer is used frequently amongst the LGBT community. And I thought it was a derogatory term myself!

Ladies, thank you from the bottom of my heart! The blog is a lot of work and when I read that it actually makes a difference, it fills me with pride and is all the "compensation" I need! Please feel free to contact me if you are traveling down the same road I navigated. It is not easy, but always better with a guide.

I have noticed the use of the term queer too. I always thought of it as a pejorative, but some people just embrace it and wear it with pride.

    hey more power to 'em

One of the great reasons I refuse to come out, is that I work in an almost exclusively female profession both in word and in personnel, and I don't want to reinforce the 'all men in this job are gay' stereotype.

There's an addendum at post # 82 on that thread, too. It's about a ten minute read.
Why don't we understand our desire to dress, behave and feel like a girl? Because from childhood, boys are told that the worst possible thing we can be, is a sissy. This feeling is so ingrained into our psyche, that we will suppress any thoughts that connect us to being or wanting to be feminine, even to the point of creating separate personalities to assign those female feelings into.

I think many of us DO have the courage of Jack Brennan, or at least it would make an appearance in those of us who have a more public existence. He acknowledged that coming out was hard for him, as it is for all of us, but perhaps it was a bit more of a necessity given his association with the NFL. But he proved for us all that our society IS ready to accept a bit more diversity.

Having just read the second half, I can see that Jack's experience of being accepted as one of the girls is nearly identical to mine. It's as if my wearing a skirt automatically signal that I'm not like any other man they have ever met and whatever guards they feel they need to out up around men are unnecessary and just vanish. I can speak very knowledgeably about shoes or what kind of dress works with my figure, and they are shared experiences. I feel like I have been given a free lifetime pass into a very special and exclusive club. It's no wonder I hate taking off my skirt and exchanging it for boy clothes.

Some time ago, I unwittingly had a magical connection with two female co-workers. I was leaving for home at ge end of the day and they were standing outside the exit, talking. I had on a short skirt, top, cardigan and 4 inch heels. When I got outside, they included me in the conversation about I-forget-what and I left after a couple of minutes. Nothing was said about my outfit. Since then, they have talked with me much more frequently and openly than before that meeting.

    Kandi,

Thanks a million for this post and your article. I was aware when this story broke, but didn't know how to contact Jack. Right here in my town! Anyway I didn't want to spook him, but after reading (part, I'm not done) I think that I really need to talk.

Funny thing about our community, we are not likely to hunt someone down. It has a lot to do with our history of being in the closet, and not wanting to overstep our boundaries

    This is pretty awesome.

For those who are asking about the word queer. The LBGTQIA community has taken back the word and gave it positive power. It is not seen by many as a negative thing now. That is infact one of the Qs in LBGTQQIAA, which is also LBGTQIA+

Less we not forget how strong willed you have to be, especially in the athletic arena...Kaitlyn Jenner comes to mind.

I subscribed to the Athletic up until just recently, the teams I follow were getting so bad I didn't want to read about them, let alone pay more to read about them. Ugh!

Jack is still deliberating between titles, the book has not yet been published. He told me the prospective titles, but I won't divulge them until one is selected.
