    Brooke,

As a point and on the other side of the world I can't be there in person but like a good many here I empathise will your dilemma.

Having someone to go out with can be a great help. I've offered support to anyone who wanted a first time out chaperone meeting up in an LGBTQ pub. I've had a few takers over the years.

If you can't find anyone then you may have to resort to the tried and tested. Top of the list has to be going for a drive. First times usually tend to be evenings but it works just as well in the day. Step things up with a drive through burgers, or pay at pump petrol. Cash point is another. All little things designed to increase your confidence.

Whatever you do at some point it comes to pulling up your big girl knickers, taking a deep breath and going for it. Shopping at a busy mall is easier than you'd think once you get over the initial panic. Dress to blend, no killer heels and micro skirts unless you want to be noticed that is, and summon up as much confidence as you can.

You know from reading here just how many can and do this. You just have to realise you can too.

One other option, is there a dressing service that offers escorted trips as part of their packages?

Hi Brooke, There is a spot on this forum called "Places to Go, Places to Meet" You might try to post there, I did. It took about a week but I met two great sisters there. Good luck, be safe.

I have a few Aussie friends who I met at T events in the States. They r located in N. New S. Wales, and Queensland. But, I know there's quite a few in the Sidney area, too.
Go on Face Book and find them. NOTHING is more reaffirming than meeting up with other dressers at T friendly venues!

And, Oz is more open minded than America!
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

Challenge yourself and pursue your passions! When your life clock runs out, you'll have few or NO REGRETS!

I lived in Sydney from 1999 to 2003 (before I went out dressed) and have been spending about 2 months every year in Melbourne for the last 6 years or so (though not in 2021).

The last couple of years I have gone out dressed in Melbourne without an issue. Been to stores (Dangerfield is my favorite), malls, trains, walked around downtown Melbourne, even a concert.

If you need makeup, go to Sephora. They are trans friendly/encouraging.

If you want clothes, I suggest Princess Highway/Dangerfield/Clear It. Their staff are young and diverse and friendly, and I love the clothes. I like Savers too and have been in several, along with other thrift stores.

I haven't met anyone in Melbourne but that hasn't stopped me from getting out. You can always jump on the train and walk the downtown streets/mall in Sydney, or walk around Circular Quay, or take the ferry to Manly. You will find it's a big non-event.
