Hi ya' all been visualizing a video in my head when I hear this song, Mistaken For Strangers by The National.

Here are the lyrics.

You have to do it running
But you do everything that they ask you to
'Cause you don't mind seeing yourself in a picture
As long as you look faraway, as long as you look removed

(We see our main character a scrawny young man lacking confidence doing menial tasks in an office, pushing a mail cart, grabbing coffee, and then posing for a team photo. He's hustling and working hard and being taken advantage of by his coworkers, all the while his mind is really focused elsewhere. Members of the band are playing in various places in hallways and board rooms.)

Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters

(Now we see him in his small apartment, shaving, getting made up, and shimmying into a party dress looking fabulous.)

You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends
When you pass them at night
Under the silvery, silvery Citibank lights
Arm in arm in arm and eyes and eyes, glazing under

(He meets up with some other young friends who may or may not be CDs and they go out for a night on the town, he is full of confidence and joy. While waiting in line for a fancy club he bumps into some of his co-workers and they don't recognize him.)

Oh, you wouldn't want an angel watching over you
Surprise, surprise, they wouldn't wanna watch
Another un-innocent, elegant fall
Into the un-magnificent lives of adults

(The band performs on the stage in the club, while our young CD takes some pills and dances with his friends. A woman dressed in white watches him from a balcony above. The night is over and our young CD goes home and looks sad.

Make up something to believe in your heart of hearts
So you have something to wear on your sleeve of sleeves
So you swear, you just saw a feathery woman
Carry a blindfolded man through the trees

(Another day in the future the young CD leaves work looking miserable and walks though a park. The band is now performing on a small stage. our young CD is grabed by the white woman, blind folded is blind folded and carred through the trees by the woman in white from the club.)

Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters

(It's another weekend our young CD is in the bathroom with his friends and other girls doing lines of cocaine)

You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends
When you pass them at night
Under the silvery, silvery Citibank lights
Arm in arm in arm and eyes and eyes, glazing under

(Back in the club our young CD is getting out of control, he bounces into one of his co-workers they get tangled up and his wig gets pulled off, his co-workers recognize him and look stunned. bouncers toss him

Oh, you wouldn't want an angel watching over you
Surprise, surprise, they wouldn't wanna watch
Another un-innocent, elegant fall
Into the un-magnificent lives of adults

(Next scene he's crying and upset and mascara is running but his friends come to him and cheer him and they go bouncing around the neon lit city streets.)

You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends
When you pass them at night
Under the silvery, silvery Citibank lights
Arm in arm in arm and eyes and eyes, glazing under

(It's morning and the shot is ground level following the stockinged legs of someone in heels as they enter an office building and get on an elevator)

Oh, you wouldn't want an angel watching over you
Surprise, surprise, they wouldn't wanna watch
Another un-innocent, elegant fall
Into the un-magnificent lives of adults

(Monday morning all of his co workers stop what they are doing and are shocked to see our young CD enter the office looking stunning in a black dress, head held high and full of confidence he smiles brightly and says hello to his co workers.)
