    Getting bolder

The other day I was at the store in my usual 'guy mode' (not anywhere near bold enough to shop dressed), and I saw a dress on the additional 40% off CLX rack that I liked. I had the cash on hand, so I discreetly went to the 'you scan' as I always do when making a feminine purchase. When I scanned it, though, the additional discount did not come up. In the past, I would either have paid the extra or cancelled rather than draw attention to a guy buying a dress. This time, I called the worker and pointed out the discrepancy. Because of the level of the discount, it took additional approval to get it. I patiently waited for it, and got my dress at the price I wanted. I really wouldn't have dared that a year ago. I wonder what that says about my attitude?

I did them same thing buying lipstick at Ulta when my promised discount didn't show up. Like you, I decided not to either give up my discount or punt.

    Good job to you

Hi, I'm Steffi and I'm a crossdresser... And I accept and celebrate both sides of me. Or, maybe I'm gender fluid.

That's a big step, believe it or not it's almost like I'm scared at a younger age when we would shop as a family. It was almost forbidden for my dad to let me go and see what my sister and mother were looking at in the ladies section. Times have changed but my mind set didn't, when I walk into a ladies section I'm still scared. My wife knows I'm not bold at all and a while ago my wife dared me to go to the pantyhose section and buy myself a pair of pantyhose. I told her no problem until I got there and there was another lady there and I chickened out just by the look she gave me as I was walking towards there. That's why for me I appreciate your courage to do what you did, my wife always told me that being the way I am I lose out on what I want for an embarrassment of people I don't even know and to be more bold.
So I congratulate you on your dress and hope you keep your head high and keep being bold. Cheers

Buying items openly, like stepping out of the house for the first time, is way easier than you imagine. There are no mobs with pitchforks and torches awaiting, just other busy shoppers minding their own business.

It took me YEARS to get over my fears of buying fem items in dept stores, malls, etc. (I NEVER shop dressed!)

But, coincidentally or not? Once I got over my fears I discovered that SA's and restaurant servers want to be helpful if u let them. And, they don't give a crap who you're shopping for!
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

Challenge yourself and pursue your passions! When your life clock runs out, you'll have few or NO REGRETS!

    Good job, Geena.
    It gets easier.
I like it when I can meet the girls at my favorite thrift store. Learn their names and sometimes they say, "Hi Jennifer!" when I walk in the front door.
It is easier after a few weeks.
Sometimes I get suggestions, or come out of the fitting room for a quick look see. Does she approve of it? Thumbs up?

Good for you, it is a great feeling buying nice things for ourselves and of course, we are the only ones that know they are for us

I remember those early days and the panic, whereas now, I never even think about it, quite happy to browse in the ladies department and ask for help if I can't find a specific thing I am looking for, not once have I ever had an awkward comment or anything other than nice professional sales staff

You keep up the good work and before long it will be second nature for you

Five years ago I wouldn't even comment on this board.

Then I got out and nothing but good happened. Now I go out (was in a crowded casino last night and an art museum yesterday afternoon) without issue.

People don't really care, or if they do, they've been friendly.

Keep taking bigger steps. The main obstacle is usually our own fears.

I just used to say my wife is poorly and she cannot leave the house, I am her carer and buy her clothes for her, but that was a long time ago, I just go shopping dressed these days.

I avoided the key problem of it being too small. It seems a tad large, but I may be able to do some simple alterations. What do you think?

For many years I bought clothes for girlfriends or my wife. It's not as uncommon as you might think. I never felt self-conscious about it.
So when I started buying women's clothing for myself, it was really no big deal.

I think the side view look better. A fitted dress can made wonder on the figure, most of my dresses have some alterations done by myself.

I had gotten over my fear of buying in male mode but now I shop en femme I will not buy stuff in male mode. Still too embarrassed. These days I am seldomly in male mode, thankfully.

I've been buying ladies clothes for wives and girlfriends for over 50 years. So that makes it a lot easier to buy things for me.

Plus, I'm kinda past the point of caring what other people think.
