Depends on your date! If a guy is taking you out you don’t want to be taller.

Alexis, the guy might want a soft place to rest his head during a slow dance!
For all those claiming that there are lots of 6' tall women, perhaps there are, but they are mostly younger women (the general population is taller than in years past) and they don't have the "bulk" of us males.
If you are OK with going out in public as a crossdresser and not trying to hide it, you can wear heels as high as you wish. If you are trying to pass or blend in with the crowd and not call attention to yourself, stick to flats.

Kristi, my sister is 63 years old and a good friend that is 6'2" is 65. I know a couple and she is 5'11" and he is 5'8".
I don't think there is significant change in the numbers of tall women then there has been in the last 50 years.

"Passable!?"
Yeah, rite! Being short makes all of us passable!
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.
Challenge yourself and pursue your passions! When your life clock runs out, you'll have few or NO REGRETS!
DocRobbySherry - I am just basing the ability to be perceived as passable on the average height of a woman. When I am wearing my heels and I am at 6' 5", then I won't be blending in very well. I guess I don't mind being noticed, just not stared at when I am a foot taller than any other women around. I don't want to be confined to dressing at home only, and don't mind being noticed, but I don't want to be stared at with people thinking, "What the hell is that?!" From what I have read on this site, many others are going through the same difficulty dealing with this as I am. I guess as I gain some more confidence, I will be okay with handling this. As I said to a friend of mine, baby steps. I'll be there one day!
I'm 5' 11" myself, but I have worked with a woman was 6' 2" And incidentally blonde and very attractive! So there are tall women out there. Just go with it!
Long Tall Sally, the shop that caters to tall women, ran a survey a few years ago and 30% of respondents said they wear heels every day. Now, unless the outcome was skewed by masses of CDs voting, then all the people insisting tall women do not wear heels are quite wrong.
I still do not understand why so many people here think they are passing. You are not. You are either not noticed or people simply do not react the way you think they would. In for a penny, in for a pound - if you want to wear heels then the only person stopping you is you!
When my brother lived in the Washington, D.C. metro area circa early 1970's he joined a tall person social club where the minimum height requirement was six foot; men and women. He met his first wife there. Tall is not the only issue. It's also poundage and body frame along with the height. Pre-covid when people still went to the mall I'd see young female basketball players in town for a collegiate game or tournament. If you were a college age slender framed cross dresser I think you could blend in. When I was six foot one, before spinal shrinkage, and young at 150 pounds with very blond hair I could blend in with those tall women. Crab an athletic tee shirt of the college and maybe you're good to go. Maybe the shorter the skirt the less people will look at your facial features. Or at least some other cheeks.
Alas, very little chance of passing. Either you except and go for it. Or you live in the closet. At 6ft 4 in I choose the closet to keep my beautiful wife on side. No regrets after 40 years of marriage but the choices have to be made all the same.
Most women don't shop wearing skirts and heels these days.
They've become more casual so flats and sneakers and such are the norm.
I don't wear women's clothes, I wear MY clothes !
Today I did the servery I suggested. I sat in my automobile in front of Kohls for about an hour. I counted 147 women come or go into the store, One was in a skirt and blouse but wore flats. The rest were in top Jeans, and flats or sneakers.

Remember this:
You do not have to be a man to love a woman, or be a woman to love women's clothes on her or yourself.

Leslie - I have noticed that too. Most women wear flats, especially when there is a lot of walking planned for their day. Over the years, I have noticed they tend to only wear heels when they go out for the evening or at the office, that is why they wear gym shoes to the office and change into heels once they get there. I guess I will learn how to present myself in public as my journey unfolds for me. Right now, I am searching for a pair of flats in my size.
Thank you to everyone that gave advice here. I really do appreciate it all!
Love,
Linda
I am a very lucky 5ft 4in man. It is commonly accepted by both men and weman in Hong Kong. And I always wear 4in heels to go out.

I am a middle age Hong Kong Chinese man, my dream is to become a Racing Queen in real life.
My adventage is having a slim body 5 ft. 4 in. tall, weights only 122 Lb., white skin and slim hands and legs.[/SIZE]
Spicy Girl - I like your outfit, it is very nice. Unfortunately, I cannot find a skirt that short in my size!
I know how it feels - not to worry - here are some easy ways to dampen height visually:
1. Dress in layers - tops and bottoms of different colors and motif - the " stacked " appearance breaks up the vertical lines, try shirts and tops with rounded neck lines or shallow V's over deep & sharp vees.
2. Likewise, wear a wig that emphases width & volume more than length, a straight wig with long locks adds to the verticals.
3. Use your jewelry and accents to add to these effects - try wearing a belt, make triad of prominent jewelry around your face to create its own layer, pearls are an easy way to see this effect.
So if you have a black skirt with colored or motif top with white in it + pearl necklace and earrings can pull from the whites - there are 3 prominent layers there - add the shoes & stockings is 4
When you add them al up - they can have a big effect on appearance. To demo it - try a mono color dress vs the layered look and see how you feel.
Try a bright colored top or white or nice motif top + belt + black bottom vs 1 color - the effect is very apparent.
I have had a tough go finding s 12 flats too and have always ben self conscious more than is apt about my height en femme .

My younger sister, six years younger than I am (we are both over 50). She stands 5’11.75”. Her 16 year old daughter, my niece, is already six feet tall. My best friend’s daughter is 5’11”. They all tower over me; I’m only 5’6” or so.
Carries a spray bottle of "pink fog" around with her in her purse at all times.

Well, it all depends on how you define "passing". If "passing" is defined as doing out on a date with a guy and he doesn't figure out that you are a dude, you are probably right.
If passing is defined as you are walking on the sidewalk and someone walking the other way thinks they just passed a woman, then you passed. I believe some of us can pull that off.
"Passing" is a moving target. It depends on where you are and what you are doing. And of course, your presentation and physical size.

Am I allowed to post in this thread? I'm only 5'9".
At my height, there are plenty of GG's out there who are just as tall as me -- or even taller.
As a guy, I hate it.
But as someone who is a part of this community? I'm diggin' it!
That said, during my hey-day of going out in public en-femme, I'd tend to wear flats -- even at my height.
Not only are they more comfortable, but it also does two things...
1.) They pretty much keep my height the same, while the guys get an additional inch or two with normal shoes, making them that much taller than me.
2.) If many/most of the GG's wore some sort of heel? They just got an instant boost, bringing them that much closer to my height, narrowing any gap.
The overall result? The guys increased their height over me -- while I was now more in the GG range.
Every bit helps!
My challenge as a CD is that I am not that tall (5'8") BUT the combination of this height plus heels PLUS my wide shoulders PLUS my big head make me stand out much more than I would like. I have CD and trans friends who are taller than I am, but their bodies are much more slender and compact and they look fantastic. Even when they are considerably taller than the average cis woman. We work with what God gave us, girlfriend. No use complaining over things that we cannot fundamentally change.
Just an FYI...
Plenty of tall GG's have been wrestling with this forever. Learn from them.
Do an internet & YouTube search for something like "tall women how to look shorter"
More than just shoes.
It's all about the *illusion* & deceiving the eye...
Krisi - Thanks, I couldn't have said it better. I am not trying to deceive a guy on a date or anything like that, I just want to go out in public and want to be seen as a woman, not a guy in women's clothing. It seems like flats will be my choice of shoe, unless there is a get together of CDer's I might attend. Then I wouldn't be too worried about it.
Monica - I agree that tall CD's can pass better than I can, bulges everywhere especially the waist. (5'8") is not a bad height to CD, but when I wear a 4" heel that puts me at 6'5"? Well there aren't that many people that are that tall. You are right, we go with what God gave us. Now I am trying to figure out how!
Kellyanne - Being new to CDing I didn't understand half of what you said! LOL! I guess I have a lot to learn. I do understand about how dressing in layers takes away the effect of height. Thanks for the advice and I will give it a shot.
Thank you to everyone that has weighed in on this thread, it is very helpful and encouraging. Keep the thoughts, stories, and opinions coming. I truly helps me out!
Hugs,
Linda
Standing next to this woman who worked at Target the other day made me feel short. She had to be every bit of 6-3. And I am probably not even 5-8. Thanks to old age and gravity! Personally height never impacted my crossdressing or going out enfemme.
I mainly don't worry about it, but I find that matching shoes to the setting helps. No heels to the grocery store, that kind of thing.
As much as I'd like to wear heels during my Indian casino trips, the heels would be out of place, 6" tall or not. Flats seem to rule there.
