    Question Just Owning it!

I've been reading that here for years. And, still am not sure what it means?

Someone in another thread thot wearing her girl shorts to take out her trash was "owning it"!

Sorry, I don't get it. "Owning it" to me would have been walking over to the neighbors and asking, "How do u like my girly clothes?"

So, what does "owning it" mean to u when applied to crossdressing?
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

Challenge yourself and pursue your passions! When your life clock runs out, you'll have few or NO REGRETS!

You made me laugh because I have said something very close to that many times. Considering some of my over the top outfits, I just have to own it as there is no denial possible. No lost the bet sillyness that they would not believe anyhow.

When I was in Mississippi and I got up from the bar to go to the bathroom, I caught a guy eyeing me up out of the corner of my eye, so I walked up to him and said - so you like my outfit, haha. Puts them on the spot sometimes. He said yes in incidentally.

I seem to run into someone on hotel elevators almost every time I go out. A couple of times I have said things like, hey don?t knock it, if you saw the group of women dancing with me, you would be shocked. So yes I have gotten where I own it at times for sure.

On my last elevator encounter, I got a woman to tie my glove strings for me. She was very accommodating. I love it.

Then there is the dancing. Haha.

I remember being in a glass floor lift up our Sky Tower with a few other families during a free family day promotion.
Some of the young and old were scared too stand on the glass floor, so I did a tap dance on the glass and invited others to join me.
Mums and dads alike smiled at me as I encouraged the brave too take a risk
I was at a stage of still quite new to public cross dressing, l'm pretty sure I was almost passable but only to the blind and deaf, but I was certainly creating fun for families that day.

Once at a major hardware, a staff member ran up to me and apologized for calling me "Sir" 60 seconds earlier, I replied "don't worry, I'm often confused myself"

Maybe that's what they mean by "owning" stuff???

Interesting expression. I suppose the meaning is unique to the individuals experience. A big deal to me might seem pretty modest to another person.

Some of us are at different places than you die hards. I was recently caught taking out the trash by a passing car that took me by surprise, I was wearing a skirt and a cami. I "owned" it by not running and hiding, just walked back to the house as if everything was normal. It was hard not to panic, but there's NO WAY I would have flagged down the driver and asked what they thought of my clothes.

It's all about confidence, especially when going out in public. When you are confident, people can immediately sense that and treat you accordingly.

To me, it means that whatever you're wearing or doing, you're just being you. No explanations or excuses, no apologies, no guilt or shame, and no worries or fears needed.
It's difficult for me to always "own it" , but there are moments where I do.

I am in the closet, so to me, owning it means admitting to myself that I am trans and being willing to accept the boundaries my wife puts on my dressing in front of Her in order to preserve our marriage and show respect to Her. Nancy

One thing I should have mentioned is that I can own it now, but I was once just as fearful as anyone in my early days of crossdressing. It took many outings for me to get to my comfortable with it. Many. I was was once gripped with fear just to get out of my car at night with pantyhose on but otherwise in drab.

I have come a long way. Thankfully.

I would say pulling it off with complete confidence . With no fear or care of the consequences.

"Owning it" Could that mean looking at my last receipt for shoes and not crying? LOL

To me the expression means you have been identified as a male wearing women's clothing and do not try of hide that fact you're a cross dresser when asked about it.

I've heard it used a lot in political situations to mean "admitting to your policies and ways of doing things without denying anything and just being truthful about such decisions and policies". And realizing you may be right many times, and wrong many times. By "wrong", I just mean that the results of a decision may not be what you expected. If their not expected, just take responsibility for the decision anyway. Hopefully, no harm, no foul.

My definition of ?owning it? is being responsible for what you and your actions may develop. When I work up the courage to venture out, I am totally responsible for any pluses or minuses.

I saw this post yesterday but didn't have time to answer and, in reality, hadn't formed any firm definition for myself. But, here goes...

I'd say that "owning it" is being truthful about any given situation and letting other's deal with their reactions. It doesn't mean that we don't feel the negative effects of other's reactions, but that we've weighed the cost and determined that the value of our stance is every bit as valid as theirs.

Ultimately, it's claiming and declaring power.

Owning it simply means wearing whatever you like without regard for how others might react.

I would say your definition is spot on Stephanie. And as for the point of the whole thing, I'm with Sandi: I want to look as fabulous as I possibly can in a frock and heels and I want to be appreciated for it. Otherwise, why bother?

Actually on second thoughts, your "How do u like my girly clothes?" is even nearer the mark Sherry. That's precisely what I want to know.
