The steam room of a nearby health club softened up my beard enough to get a very close shave. I then drove to and found the restaurant but parked across the street at the outlet mall to put on my makeup and get dressed. I was having a difficult time with the glue working its magic on the false eyelashes when I noticed my newly painted brows were dripping into my eyeshadow. Yes, it was that hot in the car! Up went the windows and a turn of the key got the conditioned air circulating. Once the inside cooled down to a reasonable temperature I began again. But this time my brow pencil ran out of ink and I did not have a backup. Wanting to look my best and getting ready in a car do not go well together. Imagine trying to comb out a wig without a bathroom faucet.
I met Val outside the restaurant and we walked inside. We are two seasoned men presenting as women with little experience to fall back on. Rather than utilize years of training, little things like opening the door for someone become something to think about. I missed getting clocked just before we were escorted to out table but I admit I was not checking for it. Val reminded me that the rest of the world sees a woman having lunch in a restaurant. That comment had me wondering what male traits were showing signs of coming through. She was able to sit with her legs crossed but I have not yet mastered that skill so I just made sure to keep my knees together and legs at a slight angle to the left all the way down to the floor.
Valerie Louise does a great job explaining the rest here:
