I found a new way to get clocked lol!

I go out presenting female pretty regularly, about once or twice a month. My wife knows and though she has seen me dressed a few times she prefers not to so I bring a "drab bag" with me and before I go home I find a place with a single user family bathroom and I go in and change.

Well I was in Target the other day presenting fully female and carrying a tote bag with a plaid pattern on it. It is distinctive but not garish. On my way to the bathroom I passed by a young woman who worked there and we just passed by each other without a second glance. I went in and changed and took off my makeup and came out carrying my tote bag. About a minute later I passed by the same young lady again. Well she must have seen the tote bag and put two and two together because as she passed by she got a big smile on her face! I just laughed to myself and went on my way.

Getting clocked was the least of your worries she could have stopped you and accused you of stealing that nice ladies tote bag!

No harm done, I guess, but maybe use a more generic looking bag in future?

If u consider THAT being "clocked", Liz? What do u consider it to be when every other stranger sees u when u r out?
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

I found that getting a smile from someone, especially when out and about dressed is the best form of complement and acknowledgement of ones whole being

    Elizabeth,

Having someone smile at you when you are out en femme is such a good feeling.

I have to wonder if it had been a male employee if the reaction (smile) would have been the same. It would be nice to think so. When I was at lunch a few weeks ago in a TGI Fridays, the young guy serving us was as nice as he could be and there was no doubt I was a MIAD. Maybe the term "young" is the key to more likely being accepted.

Wonderful story. She must have recognized your face or she might have you stole the bag from some woman. A suggested addition to your method is to carry two bags with the second bag folded up inside the first bag. After you change put the first bag inside the second bag along with your Elizabeth clothes. But the way you did it is a lot more fun, especially in this case, because the bag is the identifier and lead the employee to quickly conclude what happened and thus give you a knowing smile.

Did you change in the ladies bathroom, men's bathroom or did they have a "family" bathroom?

What's your definition of getting clocked? Not sure how my situation wouldn't qualify. Sometime saw me presenting female and later realized I was male. Clocked in my book.

Hmm. I see your point, Liz!

However, I would not considering that being "clocked" unless she actually thot u were a female when dressed. Did she?

If not, she knew u were a CD all along, rite?

Thanks. I remember a few years ago, Target announced that they were going to be crossdresser and transgender friendly and install restrooms that would be suitable for our use and they received a bunch of flak for that. I don't go into Target often so I never noticed if they made those changes.

I'm thinking of an outing in the near future so I may check out the local Target.

I love going out with full confidence. Elizabeth I bet you had a great deal of fun and I would not call that a clocking.

But then again, who cares? Nobody cares when we are out, trust me.
