    Sex-swap therapy at 3

Sex-swap therapy at 3 is a headline on the inside pages of a right of centre newspaper over here this morning (see link below). I was looking for a thread where this might have been discussed before but couldn't track one down, it would be interesting to get views on this and if there are similar proposals in other countries. At the bottom of short article click read for full story.

Quite disturbing, Julie, if it one would make such a decision for a child based on what and who they like to play with.

If indeed they have a gender identity issue, such as believing they are in the wrong body at a young age, as some here have attested to, then supportive counselling is indeed called for. I don't see any problem with that.

As for hormone treatment at 16, I disagree with it. I don't think there is much difference if one waited until they were 18. Puberty occurs much earlier than 16.

It's a bit much when the powers that be now feel they have to interfere with the normal development of children so young, such interference is bound to cause problems later on.

a fate worse than being born transgendered

this srs has been done in the us for decades. ambiguous(spelling?) genitals at birth is the reasion. there have been shows on public telivision about it. for years, the doctor, and sometimes the parents made the wrong decision and performed the surgery days after birth, only to find out years later the brains wiring (gender) could not be changed by hormones & rearing. the ama has recently suggested doctors and parents put off the srs until puberty, allowing the child to have input in choosing their physical gender.
