Sneak Peek (in a fitting room )

For those of us who go shopping en femme this will be no big deal, but for those who've always wondered what it's like to try on women's clothing at a department store, I took this picture of my reflection in a fitting room mirror with my cell phone:

    Dreaming of shopping

Thank you Windy for giving us the inside scoop on the other side of the department store door. This is channel TG News saying good night. But seriously, Thank you for taking us where we fear to tread. ( At least for now)

This is a huge deal for most, including me. My SO and I were at Nordstroms. We were there to buy her something to wear to a formal party at Christmas. We got sidetracked and were laughing about how we spent more time seeing clothes for me. The clerk asked us if she could help and saw us laughing in the corner. In typical fashion my SO straightened up, cleared her throat and said, "we were looking for a size 12-14 for him............." She paused. I paused.

She then said, "well let's see...yes, here we go..would you like to try this on?" She escorted us to the dressing room and stood outside. It was almost anti-climatic....Fun. Stressful. But had we really been serious, I'd still be there trying on clothes.

No question about it, the more upscale the store, the mellower the experience. At Nordstrom's you just walk in and select a lovely booth, whereas at Marshall's a sentry scrutinizes what you want to try on and gives you a big plastic number.

Every time I have asked to use a dressing room the sales associates have been very helpful and friendly. Never has a siren gone off and a voice over the PA system "Crossdresser in dressing room three!"
It takes a real man to wear a dress.

Great photo Windy. Is that a new dress? You look like the sweet lady that you are with your wig, dress and good looks. Thanks for sharing your pic.

I went to Kohls a couple of days ago. took some female clothes and male clothes to the dressing room. Since there is no attendant, it was no big deal to try on the fem clothes in male mode. It was kind of fun. If the other guys only knew.

Sure, take away our excuses . . . Actually I am past that fear. I figured when I was at the National Finals Rodeo cowboy shopping center and took a stack of Cruel Girl jeans into the dressing room and no gang of crazed neo-conservative cowboys came to straighten me out that America is really a pretty cool place.

nice one windy - stretched the boundaries again. I love the sentry with the plastic number - part of the buzz for me and they are so cool and friendly! And to press the button and tell them you'd like a different size!

The key to being successful is fooling all of the people all of the time.

Life has it's up and downs. I've past the up part, so it's all downhill from here!

Well, yes and no. It's not in the stores that you would generally ever have a problem. But, there's PLENTY problems to be had for TG folks in america if you are not careful. We've referenced it before, but there's a website that tracks TG people killed, largely for being TG.

    Excellent Windy,

I admire your courage. I'm not as brave... yet. This group has given me more courage though. BTW, I really like the dress you tried on.

Thanks for the view Windy and Karren. I still have not had the pleasure of out and about en femme. Has any body seen my bottle of courage?

Kohl's is great, a happy place where the prices are low if you wait for the sales and you don't have to run the gauntlet to get into a fitting room. Same for the Dress Barn, which is where I got that cute sundress.

I guess that about 8 years ago trying on was a big thrill. It is no big deal today. I try on both in drab and enfemme. Have not had a problem anywhere. I do what any gg would do--I try on to make sure the item is the right style and that it fits properly.

That's the best thing about fitting rooms: you can make sure dresses, skirts and tops actually fit before you buy them! Let's face it, our bodies weren't designed to wear women's clothing, and I'll bet I reject ten dresses for every one that looks just right on me.

Wow, thats a big step, and thanks for sharing. That dress really suits you.

Personally, I've only tried on women's clothes in a fitting room once; at value village, and they were just women's jeans, since I figured at first glance, jeans are jeans, so no one who didn't look that hard could tell. At this point, I don't have the guts to try on a dress or skirt. One day soon...

Did I tell this story before, in a different thread? One time when I had gone into Macy's while dressed and was trying on a dress in a fitting room, the sales associate just barged right in to try to help me. My guess is that she probably didn't read me until she was actually in there and close enough to see that I was wearing a wig. It didn't cause a scene, she just helped me zip up the back and then left.

Today I think I'd be a little more casual about it ... who knows, if I hadn't been so uptight, maybe she knew perfectly well what was going on, and wanted to ... nah, that's just a kinky fantasy.

Thanks, I'm glad you like my dress as much as I do! I just posted the picture of me trying it on at HOT OR NOT, I'm surprised they accepted it 'cause it's so blurry but it's out there now and you can VOTE FOR ME as a hot chick, or not....

As for having the guts to try on a dress or skirt, once I've gotten dressed and made my way into a department store, that little extra step into the fitting room is not so hard.
