    Dressing (way) down

    [SIZE="2"]
I went out for a meal tonight with 15 female nurses. I had to go in "non Suzy Mode" (I almost hate saying "in drab").. Although I was the only genetic male there I fitted in easily and felt really at home, as I always do with girls (can never do that with guys)- so far so good. What did surprise me was the way everyone was dressed. We all know that we have to blend in and dress like real girls to make sure we don't stand out, so I was really interested in the way they had all dressed for the evening.
Most of them wore no make up - a few of them a tiny amount. All wore pants - although a few also wore a plain top which showed a little cleavage. But the point is, if we need to dress down as far as that then where's the fun/satisfaction in that? This was in a country town in Australia, rather than the city, but even so - what a waste of a feminine body. It seems unfair that they were born with a girls body but they don't want to use it - what a waste! (Can I have it if you don't want it?!)

Is this just peculiar to Australia - or is it the same in the UK/US/Canada etc??

to be frank, more gg's crossdress than us; take the universal vogue for jeans and tee-shirts - MEN'S CLOTHES, GIRLS.

So even if I might have, with this going on,I feel no guilt in wearing their clothes. But to be honest, it is becos I like it, not as a protest.

Yes, bring back skirts, dresses, and heels for women.

Well we agree that women dress down a lot... They really only dress up for work or going out somewhere special... But what's wrong with that anyway!! I wear a business suit to work and you don't see me habging around the house with it on or wearing it on the weekends!! What's the difference??

As you know its a lot of work derssing up and makeup and all!! And if you didn't have to I don't think I could do it every day fore ever! Doubt if you could either..

And your just not looking in the right places!! Downtown women are dressed to the hilt!! Think of it as bird watching for that rare species!! Lol

I sometimes have the same feelings when I am walking through the mall in a nice dress or business suit, anymore with the way women's fashions have changed to a more casual look (mostly pants) for the most part I am the one who is overdressed. As my SO has told me many times, honey getting all dressed up is just not worth the effort just to go shopping.

[SIZE="3"]I dress presentibly when I'm out. At home, I'll wear a skirt (when the SO isn't home ), a cami and wig (no make up).

I was stuck in an airport for several hours during work hours recently and used the time to discretely watch hundreds (thousands) of women and how they were dressed. The results were much as observed above - I don't think I saw 20 skirts/dresses, even though a large fraction of the women were clearly traveling for business and had made some effort to look good.

I have noticed that even party clothes for most adult women (in suburbia) consist mostly of slacks and nice tops with varying amounts of cleavage. The few skirts I see are generally worn as camoflage for presumed figure flaws. Very few high heels...

When we go into Boston for plays or concerts, I see much of the same -

Then I think of the dresses I have in the closet with nowhere to take them and get sad...

I love the idea, but they'd never give it up. We usually take what we have for granted & covet what we lack.

Yep, the grass is always greener... (or perhaps the dress always fits better??)

Maybe next time you oughtta "out-dress" them to remind them just what a gift they have!!

    At home with the girls

I, too feel more comfortable with the women in a social gathering. As far as dressing down, I have considered that I may dress down in my first outing, hoping to fit in more.

I kinda enjoy seeing GG's dressed casual,,Im actually evolving in that direction as time goes on but do have my moments when I dress a little daring for my age .
Natural beauty needs no makeup but I sure do LOL
Also seeing GG's all fixed up after church on Sunday is a pleasure . Weird mix of envy and lust :-)

Yes the great majority of the time GGs are dressed down here in America just like you Aussies experience. If I go shopping or some like activity I dress down a bit too...but probably am still just a tad more dressy than the standard lady, but regardless I tone it down to fit in.

On the other hand I have been known to wear a mini and fishnets out...but that was to some wild club or party! I am supposed to go to a lesbian bar Thur night to meet some of my friends. You have to be very careful at a place like that and dress down. So it will be jeans or capri pants so as not to offend the lesbians and to fit in.

I do notice I get more compliments from GGs when I tone it down...even though personally sometimes I think I look better in the sexy dressy outfits. But I can enjoy both looks.

Why does a real female need to wear a lot of make-up or even show cleavage if they don't want to, I don't think its a waste.
I do see them wearing skirts and light weight cotton shirts when it is hot outside. I must ask, how is a real lady suppost to dress?

So how do you expect us "GG's" to dress??

I think most of us are looking for what's COMFORTABLE and casual. If you want to wear your dress, then wear it! We're not stopping you! It's these kind of comments that get under my skin! I can't figure out why so many men seem to "expect" women to "present" a certain way. When I go to the mall or shopping, I usually wear shorts/jeans and sandals/tennies. I don't go looking all "hooked up" to buy clothes, etc. It's not comfortable and I'm not going out to impress anyone!!! I think many GG's are tired of feeling the need to "impress" and choose to wear what "feels good". I'm sorry if you feel that's such a waste of a female's body!!!!!!

Even if there is fun, all the great clothes are missing out !

I dress in compassion for all those dresses, accessories and shoes that might otherwise never see the lights of day or neon-nights ! I'm on a mission of mercy !

Think of future generations of women who may never learn how to dress in an evening gown, or summer dress, or LBD if it wasn't for the flights and coveys of CrossDressers who parade through the Towns and Boulevards !

Yes Sisters, we are preserving a fading tradition until the soul-fires of class and femininity once again take hold in female wardrobes and imaginations everywhere !

We do it for the Children !

If I wear jeans and a sweatshirt with no makeup does it mean I'm crossdressed?

I will sort of tiptoe in here as there seems to be so much sentiment against "dressing down". But gee wizz girls, if you want to go out and about, you HAVE to dress NORMAL. Sure it can be fun to dress up to the hilt, but it's time consuming, expensive, and sometimes a bit uncomfortable.

I dress 24/7, and I could never live my life in a dress, stockings, and heels. For those of you that pine for the past, I think that that was never really a reality anyway. I remember my mom lived in jeans or slacks with minimal makeup, and pictures from her childhood show the same. June Cleaver was a television fantasy. I don't think anyone would try to do housework dressed like that. Normal people living their normal lives, dress normal. That means casual. I wear jeans and nice tops, try to keep my hair at least decent, and wear sandals or flats. But if I tried to "dress" the way you seem to want us to, I would be all the time getting ready, of fixing myself up, or recovering (massaging my feet after a day in heels). Plus, I could never afford it. LOL

Also, for those of you who want so much to "pass", remember this. People LOOK at women in low cut dresses, full makeup, heels, and stockings. Do you really want that type of attention? Will your presentation stand up to that kind of attention? I know that I fit in because I DO fit in. I DO fit in because I wear just what every other women is wearing. As I go about my life, visiting the bank, the gas station, the supermarket, the mall, and work, I take my cues from those women around me.

And guess what? I am comfortable and happy. Leave the fancy dressing up for a party or an outing when everyone else will be dressed up too. Live your life in "normal" clothes, and you may find a bit more acceptance from others.

    Lovies,
    Stephenie

    Try Europe

Yes, here in the states women dress very casual. Over in Europe, women still wear feminine dresses and present them selfs very well. Oh could I ever tell when we touched down in Chicago, very sad

Have ever been to Liverpool? They still think shell suits are trendy there

I spend a lot of my time outside of work cross-dressed but it's very rare that I'll wear a skirt or dress. You'll usually find me in jeans and a top.

I'm sorry I've upset you here Laney. I understand your point - and I'm sure if I had been lucky enough to have been born a girl,I too would dress down quite often as the alternative takes a long time and can be uncomfortable. The difference is that as a TV/TG/CD or whatever, we don't often get the chance to be feminine - so when we do we tend to go overboard a bit and make the most of it...... and may stand out because real girls don't.
But I take your point and I'm sorry........

I was in Florence (Italy) a year ago and noticed that the women dressed much more to the tastes of the "girly" girls here. One image I will carry for a long time is of the countless young women in black pencil skirts, white blouses, dark stockings (pantyhose, I assume) and high heels - riding their motorscooters to work, with hair streaming out below their helmets. Very pretty, feminine, and liberated.

The downtown business women here New England seem to dress enough that I think you could stop by the supermarket in the early evening wearing an office-type dress. suit, or skirt/top and people would assume that you are on the way home from work. But they probably will notice you.

The women in Las Vegas also dress up - particularily at night. I was there a few months ago for a convention and my wife joined me the last night - as we strolled around the casinos at midnight, she said to me, "I don't see how you can not stare - even I (meaning she) find it hard not to stare!" The really interesting thing is that the young girls dress to the nines - little black dresses and really nifty shoes - but their young men look like mutts ( rude tshirts, sloppy jeans or shorts, sneakers and the ubiquitous backwards baseball cap). I think there is a vast untapped market for boyfriend make-overs in LV - I can't imagine that the girls wouldn't rather their guys looked nicer. A nicely groomed guy in a elegant dress shirt, trousers and shined shoes - The ultimate fashion accessory!

GG's wearing pants is NOT crossdressing!!!

    ok, got that over with.

Its not a waste we dont dress up! Being able to hang out with friends and not worry about what we look like (to an extent) is refreshing and comfortable. It takes a lot less work, and is super easy. A lot of GG's who dress down a lot, me included, will get "dressed up" for certain occasions, but dont feel the need for everyday things.

FWIW, I feel a lot of CD's tend to try and dress to a sterotypical standard of women, IMO
