    "Manly jobs"

I was thinking and became curious. How many people here have what most people might consider, a "manly" job. I guess I mostly just want to prove that CDers are just really regular people. So I would like to hear from the mechanics, the construction workers, the carpenters, the police men, etc.

I work in youth corrections, which I think is a fairly gender neutral field. It's pretty 50/50 male and female where I work. What about other people?

Last place I visited for my job was the police station installing software for them. I was wearing pantyhose under my business casual.

Last job before retirement was manager of a Lumber/Hardware outfit. Loading lumber, concrete, forklift driving, and part of the day working with the cashiers and office staff...best of both worlds.

Publishing company/factory. Lots of lifting heavy stuff. No time for nice finger-nails or lovely smooth hands or arms. Total hard labor.

I'm a Union Ironworker. I don`t think there any more manly job out there. If it wasn't for Goop handcleaner, my skin would look like leather

I honestly have my doubts that there is any such thing any more Jill. I had a job that was pretty physically demanding at times and originally considered a "male" position. However in the late 1970's women started filling those positions in my company and many did a lot better than the guys, in fact I learned quite a bit from those gals and had a lot of respect for them. That just proved to me that folks are capable of many things if they put their mind to it no matter who they are.

I was a market research consultant supervising business surveys, doing data analysis and building forecasting models.

Not a job that is particularly reserved to males even though a lot of the other consultants were also males.

Note that with technology evolution male vs female jobs has become more of a statistical observation than a necessity linked to the harshness of working conditions.

Hi Jill. Well, I'm a home improvement contractor. I do all phases of construction, remodeling, carpentry, and landscaping. But, in defence of gender, I've seen my share of female contractors in the trade as well. ...and some dang good ones too!

    My Job

I’m a part time lingerie model ……..and a full time liar.

No, I’m a rep for a medical company. It’s not very challenging compared to what I used to do, but I’m on my own and basically can do what I like. The customers (nurses) are all lovely to work with and we get on fine. The best thing is it's light work, my hands never get dirty and I can grow my nails long. It's a bit of a girly job really - I love it!
