I have long yearned to find a significant other in order to share intimacy with, but am scared of getting an STD. I would have to find literally a "stranger" in order to know and stuff. I know HIV is prevalent in the gay community and drug addicts, but I don't know how it relates to our community. any information would help.
You don't need stats to tell you anything, you use PROTECTION... it's not rocket science is it? I'm quite offended you seem to assume these STD's are higher amongst the GLBT population

Me too....its a known fact (well here in the UK) that the hetro/vanilla community are actually amongst the highest who have STDs behind the african continents, Straight women being the second highest...I wouldnt be surprise if that number is reflected in the US too, How do I know this? Forgive me, but I don't see how Tgirlinva's question, in which she admits that she is seeking information, is offensive in any way. The assumption that you see, made about our community, I don't see it.
Perhaps it's just me, but I think the question is an innocent one, not one designed to offend.

I would imagine the best thing to do if you are looking for this type of lover, stay away from the "bad girls" of our community. Who might these bad girls be?
The ones that need a ride to shady parts of town to talk to some friend, and they want to borrow money [probably buying drugs]
The ones that have that whole "she male porn star" look, and they are fairly young, and you can tell they have had at least a few surgeries. And if they don't have a lucrative job, how do you think they afforded those breasts and hips and the FFS? Not by flipping burgers at Wendy's.
Of course it is no guarantee that a clean cut one is w/out an STD.
Point is, you can pretty much tell the ones who have more likely been around.
Whoever you choose, make sure and get to know her at least some before getting in the sack.
I've said before on this forum that I used to teach Human Sexuality on the college level. I still keep up with the topic especially with the research on STDs.
Some not so fun facts:
The fastest growing population to contract the AIDS virus is the "baby boomer" generation. Why? We grew up in the "free love" generation and are not used to using "protection". We don't think that our partner could possibly have the virus and most women our age don't worry about getting pregnant. Therefore we do what feels good.
A few years ago the transgendered and CDs were pretty high in contracting the virus, however that seems to have fallen behind the "boomers"
Some studies suggest that anywhere from 25-40% or more young people who are sexuality active have a STD (not necessairly HIV).
Condums are not manufactured to protect from STDs. They are made to prevent pregnancy. The failure rate for preventing pregnancy while using a condum the correct way is 15-16%. Now that is what they are made for. What do you think the failure rate is for preventing a STD? In fact there is no protection from the most common STD around these days, the Human Papalloma Virus (Genital Warts).
Please be careful out there and just having one partner you trust is the safest way to go.

Why would you be more afraid of getting an STD from a CD/TS than you would be of getting one from anyone else? Here is a plan...dont sleep with everyone you meet, and get to know them before hitting the bed?
Seems like an odd question to me....
so true...condom will not stop a virus such as hiv..std..etc...as for being offensive..im neutral...the % of the population (consider gay/lesbian/bi/cd) is what you have to look at...mutiple partners place you at great risk...(add drug use/blood transfusions...etc)...
For all the flamers and grillers: it's by no means offensive or in any way meant to be so. I don't assume anything (otherwise I wouldn't have started the thread). Furthermore, I believe that I'm quite accurate in saying that the gay/drug user community are at higher rates of HIV-infections. STD in general, that I don't know.
Also, I am a tgirl (hence the name) and am looking for a straight/bi man. I don't consider myself gay b/c I'm TG and rather consider myself straight. Having said that, I don't know what types of STDs are more prominent in our community than others, and that's what I am looking to hear.
My wife and I are swingers and we get checked twice a year.
I would never be offended if a potential partner asked for an STD certification. Mind you... you'd have to wait a few weeks for a full work-up, but that kind of thing is completely acceptable amongst our Lifestyle, and should be everywhere.

That makes absolutely no sense... you have male genitals correct? So if you go into a relationship with a man, that would make you gay.. Stating that you don't consider yourself 'gay' sounds more like you're ashamed to admit it... clothes don't make you anything...

I would recommend that you not have unprotected sex with anyone until both you and they can produce the paperwork that states your std status. It easy to do and usually free. Just go to the gay district and you will find a med center, usually a counseling center that offers free hiv testing among other std testing. (search the net for facilities in your area). Your local state health dept also provides these services for free.
When I say anyone, I mean anyone.
I have no intentions of contracting hiv just because I am horny. It's that simple.
I declined sex in the heat of passion just the other night, was it easy to say no, absolutely, did I want it, absolutely, was my partner disappointed, absolutely, are they going to go get tested, absolutely. The bottom line is this, I care about me, if you don't care about me, then I can only assume that you don't care about you either.

Why would i be ashamed of being gay? I thought I was gay for a significant part of my life actually. But that's what transgenderism (is that the word?) is about. You were born physically a male, but emotionally, you are a woman. That's how I feel. Therefore, me liking a man makes me from that perspective straight. How does that no make sense?
Because then you wouldnt be CD, you would be TS!....thats why it makes no sense, if a CD (someone who still id's as male but dresses in clothes of the opposite gender) likes another man then that makes them gay
Exactly... you didn't say you were a TS, you said you were transgendered, which for the majority is an umbrella term for all of it... If you know inside you're a woman, then you should have said soand I apologise if my post was harsh, but honestly you confused me.

Like you said "TG" is an umbrella term, you just assumed I was a CD, I didn't say I was. And no offense taken.
The confusion arose because few trans females (TS women) describe themselves as "tgirls".
HIV/STD rates in the US are higher in the gay community than the straights. The highest rates are in prostitution. Rates are rising in the young male gay population as many are not using protection.
Probably because you posted in the MTF CD section... see how easy it is to get confused thoughand thank you for not being offended... I felt quite bad
