Bearded Ladies?

Hello Girls:

I have a most sincere question to ask as it pertains to one of our clients here at the boutique. Would it be in bad taste for a cd gal to go out clubbing in the states en femme with a beard?

We will be escorting our girlfriend out and providing protecton but we want to make sure that we advise our client accordingly so that she is made to feel very comfortable in her environment.

This is a very exclusive service that we provide so our outreach here is limited however, we we want to be sure that we advise our girls in the proper manner. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'm answering your question as I have seen several of your posts. It was only when I saw it was you that I realised it was not a joke.

I don't know what environment you are planning to be in (or her , whatever) but a man emulating a woman whilst displaying such classic male features as a beard is going to look rather ridiculous and open to abuse.

You know in your heart that it will be ridiculous. The man must also know. I don't care how fem he might feel 'inside', it is just such a contradiction of images it is asking for ridicule, abuse, and disappointment all round.

Sorry if that is cruel, but you should see what I was GOING to write!

This dear is not a joke and our client is quite sincere in her desire to go out clubbing en femme. She is however closeted and she wears a full beard when in drab. She has asked us for our opinion in terms of whether or not it would be acceptable in a cd-friendly club or not.

I was asking in here for a general opinion in search of any taboos ect.

I don't know if it would be in bad taste or not, but I don't see how you could go out that way without attracting unwanted attention. Does your client have access to a good make-up artist who can devise some sort of prosthetic cover for the beard?

I did not view your site. Depending on where you are located and if you go to a gay bar this should not be unheard of. I live in Toronto and it is not uncommon to see a man dressed in drag out on either Halloween or Gay Pride weekend in full drag and a beard. Now in every case these guys were gay men who were doing drag. It was treated as funny and humorous and that was it.

But to go to a bar that is frequented by cd's or ts's there could be some issues with others in the community making comments.

I know of a man who used to go to a monthly fetish night in Toronto in full crossdressed mode (breast forms, ladies clothing, and full make up), but full beard too. This was the only time he ever went out dressed as that whole scene is open to all sorts of unique people. From what we saw no one was rude or openly negative to him.

I think if you go to the right bar at the right time you could probably pull it off but every city has different attitudes.

I assume you are talking about going out in Chicago? If so, I imagine there must be at least a million Gay, Trans, even Lesbian bars there? If so, s(H)e could go there dressed as a Troglydite in a evening gown and all that would happen is someone pointing at the Trog in drag.

Go out clubbing in a dress with a beard? Suddenly you find a lot of real Trogs wanting to either beating up on, or kill your client.

Not necessarily fair, but that is how it is, even up there where you live.

I have been gay bashed, to the point of coming home with a black eye, just for parking my truck down the street from my favorite bar ... not a gay bar ... but down the street from one. I was in jeans and a t shirt ... nothing femme in the least. This guy came running up hollering "Fag!" and punched me as I turned to see who was yelling.

So? Go out dressed all grrly, wear a beard, expect the worst.

If it's a CD-friendly club - I think they'd 'get it' - but it'd have to be a CD-FRIENDLY club. Established as friendly. COOOOOOOOOL with it. Know what I'm saying?

There are ways to dress feminine that aren't SO FRILLY that they'd completely contradict the beard though - like a pretty sweater and slacks, etc - a spaghetti strapped summer dress would look... well, from personal experience - funny.

My concern for your client is that, with all the staring and insensitive comments that may be made... her total experience will probably not be a pleasant one. Even in a CD friendly venue, it is possible that she may be shunned unless her personality is strong enough to evoke a light-hearted banter with some of the others there. We all know that getting to and from a club is hardest part of being out and the most dangerous, too. I have talked to some CDs that had such horrible "first experiences" that it pushed them back in the closet for decades! We don't want that for her!!!

I would suggest that you wait for a Mardi Gras night or some kind of Drag event where her "look" will be better accepted. We have a WigStock kind of thing here, for charity, called "Big Hair" and a couple of amateur Drag Competitions. Gay Pride Week is also a good time. And... there is always Halloween!!! If she still wants to go "clubbing", then, the earlier, the better. Late afternoon and before 9:00pm, the clubs are not busy, and that may be a better time to go.

Try contacting some of the local TG Support Groups as they will probably have the answers you are looking for. Most have an email address or contact number. They have seen and done it all and will give you good advice on how to make your clients "night out" a safe and fulfilling experience!

Just my two cents to this question,
I had an advertising from Lee at Centurians how to hide mustache and beard, sorry I can't find it now.
But I remember the showed a picture of a fully covered mustache and great make up. They also got complete rubber skins lovely with make up.
Maybe it is a good idea to look into this?

There are places in Washington (state) that guys do this all the time.

Now, in Chicago, it might be different. Is there a reason he wants to keep the beard? He can always grow it back if he doesn't like the clean look. Shaving now, now that summer is upon us is a way to explain the missing beard.

Note that Gender****, an annual drag ball hosted by Queers and Associates (Q&A) of the University of Chicago is held in Hutch Commons, has been a University tradition since 1998.

i actually have seen girls with beards when I lived in So Cal at a club called the Queen Mary...now closed.

It wasn't an issue at the club as far as i could tell because it was a specific tg club. She looked quite comfortable and as I recall was in conversation with other girls.

I do believe thought that at other clubs, streets, environments, restraraunts, etc. this would certainly bring undesired attention, taunting and overall negative societal responses that could be hurtful and unfair to her. I myself had to do a few double takes of the bearded girl as, I also, yes unfortunately to say, didn't 'fit' my eyes of what a lady might resemble... That was a tough one to say given my own dressing and dislike of societal prejudices. Kinda funny/self insulting to me thinking about the strange double standards I even have given I am not the norm!!

anyways, i do think the experience would be better if she were to shave, experience more a full femmine transformation....and not risk the taunting.
