Does the place where you live have anti-gay discrimination laws?

Does the place where you live have anti-gay discrimination laws? I'm mostly interested in the antigay discrimnation as it pertains to employment. Crossdressors are mostly labeled gay so they certainly do face discrimination in employment. State what city or state you live in and what the laws are.

I live in Chicago, IL. There is now a statewide law banning discrimination against gays in employment. Just passed this spring 2005. Came too late for my career though.

You bet. Here in Canada we have strict human rights laws that include protection for gays and lesbians and the transgendered. We have several openly gay politicians from the municipal level to the federal level and laws have just been passed that allow same sex marriage.

Be careful. Some states that have anti-gay discrimination laws have specifically excluded Transgenderds. That's a despicable shame, because once that ship has sailed, we have very little clout, politically, without riding the coatails of the gay/lesbian/bi community. To their credit, most(but not all) in the GBL community have fought hard to include the "T".

    Hugs,

In Washington State, unfortunately, there is not a single law that protects the gay, lesbian, and transgendered community. You have to look at whether a particular county has passed such a local law. In King County (where Seattle is) there is protection from anti-gay discrimination. Sadly, most of Washington State is not as liberal as King County. I think there are a few other counties, but most don't have such a protection.

Well you might be protected here under hate crimes but, if you're asking if you can be dicriminated against for being a crossdresser, I would say yes, even if there were some law only smart people would know how to use it until there's more of us here and a need for there to be a law. Being gay is not a crime but a guy in drag is bad for business to employers. Oh they might hire you just to make your job hell so you quit and they don't have to pay you unemployment. But they already do that anyway.

"Cincinnati voters approved Issue 3, now known as Article XII, which forbids the City and any of its Boards or Commissions from providing protected status to persons because of homosexual, lesbian or bisexual orientation. The ballot measure was approved by 62% of city voters.

The current language in the City Charter is as follows, "The City of Cincinnati and its various Boards and Commissions may not enact, adopt, enforce or administer any ordinance, regulation, rule or policy which provides that homosexual, lesbian or bisexual orientation, status, conduct, or relationship constitutes, entitles, or otherwise provides a person with the basis to have any claim of minority or protected status, quota preference or other preferential treatment. This provision of the City Charter shall in all respects be self-executing. Any ordinance, regulation, rule or policy enacted before this amendment is adopted that violates the foregoing prohibition shall be null and void and of no force or effect.",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Really,, No sh*t?!?,,, in a civilized society?!?,,, go figure?!?!,,, actually this was indeed the law of the land here in Cincy,O. though, fortunately finally overturned just late last year ,,,still we tread lightly 'round these parts,, but tread we doo!!!,,,,,the answer to your next question,,,because I love my daughter.
