nice to see young cd's that are still participating. What would be really nice to see if more GG's that enjoy being with cd's...that's the challenge!

I don't know about the other young ones out there, but I personally have a few ideas about why you don't see more of us participating in the online community. These aren't necessarily gripes about CD.com, but they do apply to the general experience of a young CD venturing out onto the internet in search of acceptance and understanding.

    1. This certainly isn't true of everybody, but I've encountered it often enough that I'm a lot less open now. Lots of CD/TG/TS/TV people get unwanted attention from "admirers," and the young ones are no exception. Some of us are driven back underground when we begin encountering aggressive chickenhawks.

    2. Many young genderqueer folks are already facing fear and intolerance at home, but when we step out into the internet looking for people like us, we get another dose of intolerance. I have personally been ignored and even derided by older TV/TG folks, because I'm not "really serious" unless I do full-blown hormones and surgery. I take offense to that attitude. I'm not just "playing" or CDing to get a cheap thrill. It's not my fault that a student in his or her mid-20s can't afford expensive medical procedures.

    3. Lots of us are lucky enough to find youth-oriented groups or sites, and we spend a lot of time connecting with other genderqueer people our age. Once we turn some arbitrary age (21, 25, etc), we are kicked out into the "general population." Losing the only support network that some of us have ever had is traumatic, and we don't feel like our support can be easily replaced (for the reasons stated above).

All you young people know that there is a section of this forum just for us, right? Use it BEFORE you "age out" of the system.

A little more than a month out of 23 here and I have wondered myself where all the younger CDs hide. Seems the most open among us are much older.
For years I hoped I was just a CDer but now I realize I am transgender and that's alright.

Me too! I still consider myself young, but when I was in my mid 20's I was to mixed up to be so open about myself. I thought I would never have the nerve to come out or begin transitioning, but it happened.

A big thing for me was remembering back to 19-21ish and sneaking around late at night dressed, and I just couldn't live 10 more years like that.

im 28 here, and i totally understand why there are less of us younger cds. acceptance and trust is so hard to earn and keep that we donut want to jeopardize it by outing ourselves. However i have learned the best thing to do is be open and be yourself. it doesn't matter what other people think, only what you think about yourself. Once you come to that, life is allot simpler and easier.

I'm 24 here, and for the first time I'm looking for support with fellow CDs. It's been great so far to have given me the time to post in here.

27 here and I think part of why you see less young people on the forums is that even into our twenties people tend to cling to the same social concerns as teenagers do and coming out as something different can be scary in certain circles because we're afraid to lose friends or be an outcast.

I've only started being more open in the past couple of years myself but I cant remember a time in my life when I didn't want to wear "girl's" clothes. Aside from halloween though I didn't go out in public in things until just about two years ago, and even since then it has been sporadic at best. Part of the reason for this is because I do stand up comedy in real life and I have long been concerned with how becoming an open crossdresser will effect my budding career.

I've only recently decided that i'd rather just make it somewhat known now than risk getting "outed" if I ever get famous and have it be tabloid fodder then. Now my struggle is with finding ways to talk about it in my act without losing the crowd.
