I am a whitewater kayaker and am around that environment almost every weekend. I have been doing it for years but it does still make me smile inside when we joke about wearing skirts. In my head I'm always saying, if only you knew!

It was a sea kayak around Espiritu de Santo Island in LaPaz Baja Mex It was an awesome trip but not white water. The jokes were great.

I once a long time ago, built a Kayak from plans out of Popular Mechanics
It was fun, but I never had the chance to use it. My dad sold the Kayak
while I was in the service.

Excuse the ignorance, but what is a Kayak cockpit skirt? and why is it required?
It keeps the water out of the boat, Kayakers play in pretty rough water. If you have ever seen a native of Alaska, roll one over and back up, you know you want to keep the water out of the boat.
Now one of you Kayakers let me know if I got that right.
