Let's face it - English is a crazy language. And finally one last question to end this rather long post...Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick' ?

Correct I've always wondered how non-English speakers ever learn how to speak let alone write English without going crazy with all of the different spellings and pronunciations with words. I remember the difficult time I had just learning the grammar components, conjugating verbs, articles etc with foreign languages. Another addition to the above rant regarding the word Bass. "I need a car stereo with lot's of Bass, or I'm planning to go Bass fishing." This is kind of like the "Things that make you go h'mm segment on the Arsenio Hall Show.

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. For example...There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

Why is it that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If teachers taught, why don't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Why do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

Why is it your house can burn up as it burns down, you fill in a form by filling it out and an alarm goes off by going on. When the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

And finally one last question to end this rather long post...Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick' ?

What can I say, no matter what I claim or words I adopt, I wind up being human. That means sexually capable of enjoying close, intimate relationships with other humans I care about regardless of gender. Its time we all gave up the us and them lables and just relaxed and enjoyed each other for who we are.
