This past Saturday, we went to a charity dinner. I had to wear a jacket and tie. All the females, young and old were wearing
some of the nicest dresses, or skirts and tops. The men, well, we looked almost alike, except for the difference in the colors of our jackets ties and pants.
I was pondering this the other day when out for lunch in town. I looked in the main male-oriented clothes shops, and saw what is essentially variants on a theme. It was boring. I have lots of t-shirts, shirts, trousers, a suit. Other than specialised clothing, like my cycling gear, I have no other types.
One of the attractions of dressing femme is that I could choose from a bewildering array compared to male. I guess that's the attraction. It's all variants on a theme, but female clothing seems to have so many more variations.

Okay for the last time. Men's clothes are NOT boring. Just because YOU don't know how to dress well doesn't mean the choices aren't good enough.
Dudes on this site don't like men's clothes because they prefer to crossdress, and that's cool but there are plenty MORE dudes who would rather wear the stuff in the above link than women's clothes.
To blame your cross dressing on the available fashion for men is just silliness. Look at all of the clothes available from just this ONE site. What's the excuse now? Just admit you'd rather cross dress and be done with it.
I also work in health care and when I'm not wearing scrubs, I do just wear what all the other guys wear. I like to stand out by my achievements, but in some environments you just really don't want to stand out physically, it's better to blend in.

Well, certainly "most" male clothes are "boring". At least compared to females. The simple reason is that MEN don't need to be "attractive" to women, the same way that women need to be a attractive to/FOR men. Women are far more concerned about the present itself than the wrapping paper. ALL of those [so many] choices that women have is to simply give them a "greater chance" to be "attractive" to "more men". Women don't/won't go through all that time, money and effort on their appearance because they have nothing better to do. They do it because they HAVE TO compete with other women, a FACT lost on the vast majority here IMO.
I would go for any interview dressed in the same manner the boss dresses. More importantly, I would stand up straight, look them in the eye, give them a proper handshake and will have done some research on the company's roots for starters...

I actually love the early '80's and the Don Johnson look for "Boy Wear". All the colors! and the style! Todays styles suck, totally.
It is really funny. My latest look, for boy wear events, has been a black suit, white shirt and skinny black tie, with a black fedora and tortoise shell Raybans.... the blues brother look.... it is pretty cool! So far it has been a big hit.
Your experience is simply seeing men in their 'business attire', a uniform of sorts that men wear for their job. While not completely standardized, a suit with conservative colors is what's accepted in our society to get ahead in the business world. If you go to other cultures, you will find some physicians with 'wilder' colors to their shirts and ties, maybe in Hawaii some may make their rounds wearing decorative Hawaiian shirts and shorts. If you want to be taken seriously at your job, you wear what is considered appropriate attire for it, whether that be a space suit, tux, coveralls or gym shorts.Originally Posted by SAMANN

I recently went to an open evening at a hotel on the outskirts of Maidstone for an estate agency that was recruiting. I was told in advance to wear business attire. I turned up looking business like, suit, shirt and tie. Whilst in the waiting room others began to turn up. All the men were dressed fairly well the same. The clothes that the women wore most of them just looked like they had turned up dressed smart casual. Various coloured and patterned tops and skirts, high heels that had to have scaffolding around them in case you fell over. This is what shows how boring mens clothes are.
Also when you watch films on the TV set say in the 40s, 50s and 60s mens clothes have not really changed that much but womens clothes have changed many times over.

If you can afford the stuff on that site, or others like it. I don't have 50 bucks for a shirt. I don't think I pay that much for anything in my wardrobe anymore. Yes I like women's clothes better. Partly because menswear is just variations of the same things that men have worn for over a hundred years now. Except for different patterns and maybe cut, they are all similar in appearance. the colors tend to stay in the more neutral range, or darks. Brighter colors still tend to get you thought of as gay, even though they're men's clothes. And God help the guy that wears pink, even today. You and I are the same age, so I know you remember when mens shorts were actually shorts and not knee pants. men used to wear bell bottoms. Not anymore. Those are women's pants now. The list goes on. Women's clothing has expanded greatly while menswear shrinks steadily. Or doesn't appreciably change. Also, women are allowed to experiment with personal style and fashion. Men really are not.

Really that's the reason you'd rather wear a woman's blouse? That is just ONE site. There are plenty more sites and plenty more options on the street in any decent sized city. But because one site has a $50 dollar shirt, men's clothes suck?
This thread title needs to change to "I will wear women's clothes no matter what" because no matter what I offer in the way of reality gets ignored as if it wasn't posted at all. There are men who know how to dress and they wouldn't begin to think that men's clothes are boring. They sure as hell wouldn't think that they'd rather wear a woman's blouse because it's got a color that isn't available in Sears. I'm beginning to seriously question the sanity of the of people on this site. I wonder if some of them actually believe they are only cross dressing because of the limited options for men down at the department store.
I must be a weirdo but I love my suits. I got them when I was a high roller at a major software company and they used to fly me around the country. There's something mystical about them when you pay 2300 each and they're on sale! I like my black silk wool the best. I look like a badass lawyer or business mogul even though I'm skinny. You have to have the suspenders that join in the back and button to really nail it though. Belts are for posers and suck-ups. Ties should have rare metals in them also.
I can guarantee you that if you saw me in one of mine, boring would be the last thing you would think. What you were seeing were cheap (ah, ok, inexpensive) suits. They can look worse than camos, flip flops and a wife beater to me.

When you pull out polo shirts, button down collared shirts and suits, whats left? I don't even OWN a suit. Don't like 'em, and won't wear 'em. Polo shirts, regardless of colors, also get boring after a while. Men's pants come in 2 or 3 basic styles; straight leg, boot cut, and tapered leg. Then you have differences in cut that generally duplicate something that was done in the last 50 years (what's old is new again type thing). No matter what combinations you come up with, the basic pattern of menswear has not changed in 100 years. And don't bring ties into this. Like suits, I refuse to wear them. Although that has nothing to do with available styles or colors. It's personal. BTW; I don't have any women's blouses.

Yes, you have discovered that the purpose of men's clothing is to make all men look alike. The suit and tie is a result of the industrial revolution and is nothing more than a stuffy uniform to remove all individuality with the idea of creating a level playing field for all men because they look alike.

zenerabird, I think you bring up some great points here.
Usually I inject color into my wadrobe with polos and t-shirts, but that does get old at times. I do have some colored jeans, both men's and women's, but generally I find colored jeans for men to be hard to find, especially since I'm a small guy. Although it seems either way I have to get things tailored since women tend to have longer legs than men, even if my waist is somewhat small for a guy.
As far as suits go, I'm not in love with them either and I literally do not fit into even the smallest men's suit, so it makes it more difficult to even get excited about them. I don't feel like going to a tailor all the time either.
Finally, I too get annoyed by the tie suggestion. Ties are such a small aspect of a guy's wardrobe and it really feels like grasping at straws to me.

I don't think men's clothes are boring, my husband looks damn good in an all black suit black shirt black tie. Or a polo and dress pants. Even his "every day clothes" look good. My favorite "guy" look for him though basketball shorts and a fitted hat, no shirt showing off his tattoos. Looks very sexy with his smooth chest.

I've worn my good Hong Kong silk suit to a couple of weddings, my dad's funeral (with my ribbons, 'cos he was military), and a local music-industry awards show; everyone comments on it, it's tailored nicely. The other two suits (all 3 black) have seen enough duty to keep them in the closet, and I never wear a tie (nine years of powerlifting gave me a bit of a neck). The long hair makes changes; my warrant officer from '74 mentioned I didn't look at all like when I mustered out. My fave boy look, as with KatieGG above, is cargo shorts and sneakers ( image removed) ; the womenfolk like the smooth body.
Still,if I'm not getting dirty or sweaty, girl clothes are the total answer. There's so many more moods to choose, and if I like what I'm wearing, I'm happy, and that's all \I really care about...

I am quite prepared to admit that I prefer to wear women's clothes because I like wearing skirts and dresses, and these look better with a bust, heels, etc - all of which I like.
Men's clothes are not boring if you dress smartly. A good jacket, cufflinks, just the right shirt ... can be really sharp. Get the shirt collar right and the discomfort of a tie can be worth it for how good it looks. I get a lot of compliments from women whether dressed as a man or woman.
There is a lack of variety, though. I am a Scot and I only wear a kilt once every couple of years (I own it, so expense is not a limitation). Cowbiy boots are male attire, but would look ridiculous in Scotland (outside Aberdeen). Ditto a stetson, but both look good and are male. And far from boring.
Fancy dress is a problem unless you want to be a cowboy or pirate or vicar or gangster or a member of Village People - old military uniforms look great but are expensive. And some have issues - ask Prince Harry. So - you could always dress as a woman!

Exactly! It's not about what color his clothes are, it's about how great he looks wearing them! The clothes serve to enhance HIM and what he stands for, and not vice versa.
GGs are attracted to appealing, well-dressed men, just like men are attracted to appealing, well-dressed women.
So if a crossdresser does not want to look appealing in guy mode, is it because he doesn't want women to be attracted to him? :p
