First of all, thank goodness you remained safe....

The Marine and his wife were really nice people and stayed until I left.
I thanked them both for looking out for me.
She told me they support trans people and hate to see anyone get treated the way those guys were treating me.
She gave me a hug as we left.
...and that good people had your back. That would be the positive to take away from being witness to a grotesque negative in humanity.

No, this is a cautionary tale to be aware and keep your head about you. What happened to Tracii is the exception, not the rule. But like any other woman out there, being a potential victim of violence is always possible...but still the exception. Being a victim of harassment is also possible...yet still the exception thank goodness.

Tracii's cautionary tale is for those of us who enjoy the mainstream like any other woman...like any other person out there. Whether part time in presentation or full time, we all get read by a few, some, most or all...even you Kate, I promise you. It comes with the territory. Yet it's no reason to fear being out amongst others. Just be aware of what's going on around you.
