Definitely pace yourself. As you've pointed out, a repeat of the swimsuit thing is at least an indication of a bit of a obsessive-compulsive streak that could be a problem in a number of ways, starting with your wife's thus far reasonable reaction. Be selective and stick to a very tight budget!

Wives are smart. Reeeeeally smart. I bet she already knows. I would obsessively buy my wife dresses, pantyhose, and heels all the time. To the point she was getting really annoyed by it. When I finally told he I wanted to try wearing those thing she said " I know, I'm not stupid." What worked for me was to slowly work into things. Not just saying " hey, I want to dress up as a woman"
