I am real
I my experience`that is a partial truth. I am best of friends with an ex-Forum member here who transitioned because she had to. I know and have socialized with several others on this site some who had to transition and some others, you could say, who wanted to and maybe had to also in a milder way. Another good friend of mine just transitioned from a younger age because she wanted to. I transitioned because I wanted to.
Using the words "had to" has different flavors for some. I think it is more a need that gets frustrated and never satisfied due to social situations (family, work, tough parents, etc.), one's own fear and other factors to the point where that need to transition now becomes to "have to" or els!
my cliche:
"Oh your Trans, so you must be gay!"
Oh, I have another one from my early days here and the tough crowd of TS's:
"You have to suffer to transition"
I remember being hospitalized years ago and they looked at my profile that I was TG, which the nurse talked to me about it. It basically comes down to this:
"Are you attracted to men or bisexual? It's either one or the other, so which one are you"?
I answered bisexual, but I usually get that alot from people.
No surgery, no transition!
On HRT, must be going to transition!

Another good one:
"Did you have THE surgery yet?"
“so you’re in to guys now?”
from a lesbian friend
"I suppose you want men to open doors for you now"?
Escapism isn't necessarily bad, but is definitely unhealthy in the long term. While helpful in the short term, things will degrade over time. At some point, the escapee will have to face the issue. Things simply blowing over isn't really going to happen in many situations.
How about:
"What's your real name?"
"Oh, you're trans, do you do drag? You should because you'd be great at it."
"Okay, but is it a functional penis?"
All great ones...
when you start to add them up it kind of tell a story..
I am real
Here's my cliche rebuttals just for fun :-)
"don't transition unless you have to": "I had to, I was tired of cross-dressing as a man, I couldn't afford all those Saville Row suits".
"Oh your Trans, so you must be gay!": "yes, indeed, I'm a lesbian!"
"I suppose you want men to open doors for you now"?: "you bet, it's payback time".
"Oh, you're trans, do you do drag? You should because you'd be great at it.": "yeah I used to have a dragster, me and my buds would race every Saturday morning".
"Okay, but is it a functional penis?" : "yeah I just took a leak 10 minutes ago".
"Are you attracted to men or bisexual? It's either one or the other, so which one are you"?: "Only women. I wanted to reduce my pool of available partners from 50% to 5%, too much choice, I couldn't decide!"
"Are you pre or post op?": "post-op. I had my appendix out 31 years ago".
"so you're in to guys now??" from a lesbian friend : "no, I'm still into women. Are you free tonight?"
"You have to suffer to transition": "you have to transition to end the suffering".

Wife, " You're really just a man in a dress ! Darn it why do you have to look so good !"
Again wife , " I knew you'd dress like a tart ! Any chance I can borrow your outfit ? "
Jean, I love your rebuttals and as the title says "or truths?" I think you clarified that.
It's interesting that most of the people relate any of the LGBTQ+ variations as something sexual but everybody forgets about our feeling and why so many transition or get out of the closet.
With the many riders being an Uber driver I found that they don't even understand the concept of Gender Dysphoria or even dysphoria as well. After explaining my experience so many thanked me for being open and they said could be understand better trans people.

I think that's a truth that most people do not understand trans people. Some folks are willing to listen and try to understand. These cliches do hit home. My wife, who has known I'm a crossdresser since before we married (and now knows I'm in transition) asked me shortly after our youngest child came out as a trans woman 2 years ago, if this meant she would be a drag queen.
I had to explain that drag is a separate thing and an art form. Trans is deep identity and we just want to be ordinary women.
After taking time for dressing, with makeup and looking like a centerfold lingerie model. I made dinner, started a fire, wine and quality time (G rated for this post) with the ex. She said "You're still a guy" at the end of date night.
Truth hurts....

I dont think cisgender people can "internalize" this. Its not anybody's fault. Intellectual understanding is important but even for some of us it can feel like it doesn't make any sense.
This makes communication very difficult. Words get said but they dont mean the same thing to us.
Im a man trapped in a woman body... that's trans people trying to express something to cis people...
Oh Kaitlyn check out this drag queen I bet you like her. thats cis people trying to connect with me
in the end, Im pretty sure that every thing that we call a cliche starts from some kernel of truth..
. but many of those "truths" are more like failed attempts at communication and truth gets lost in the translation..
I am real
Interestingly, lesbian friends tend to assume I'm into women and straight women friends assume I'm into men. Actually they're both right, so that kind of works, but it's an interesting difference.
What just happened to you, you were never like this before!
I always knew there was something different about you. - or - Oh THIS explains EVERYTHING!
Be careful, this will go away when the next fad comes in.
Sarah
Being transgender isn't a lifestyle choice. How you deal with it is.
yes... many people have this internal thought that it wont last or that it will go away..
Sometimes I think its because they want it to..its challenging for them..
and I got mostly "omg you??? no way!!!!"
I am real
Difference between a cross dresser and a trans woman:
A cross dresser can't wait to get home and put on a bra.
A trans woman can't wait to get home and take off her bra.
He didn't tell me that but someone else repeated to me.
In that sense they have reasons to think in that way because in my case I'd been a person that has done so many things in life, different jobs, hobbies, sports, etc. Now I know that that was apart of a search for myself but I was confused and lost.
