I bought my first CD accoutrements this past August, outfitting myself as best I could with about $1000. I had put aside for unspecified purposes. That much got me "started" pretty well. Going forward, I am not thinking so much about budget, but if I have the money to spend on an item without becoming totally broke, I will do it. I am trying to use thrift store resources as best I can, but some of the stuff I see on Amazon and elsewhere is so inviting, I have a loaded cart. I could easily burn through my reserve right now, but then I'd be broke. So I'm trying to be responsible, but it's not easy. I also make sure I do not spend any "family" money or run up the charge account, so that keeps me in check as well. This is not a cheap sport, although I've heard golf is worse.
