    I was called......

    The title is the hook.
Go on you know you had to find out what this was about.

Yesterday I had to go and see a specialist eye surgeon.
I thought it was just for a check up regarding the vision in my left eye.
I do have a little macular degeneration and this was noted in July but was pronounced stable.
I have begun to notice a change when I look at straight lines. There is a curve appearing. A circle has a flat spot (straight line) between 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
I had to push quite hard to get an expedited appointment as he is often booked up for many weeks in advance.

Now being me I got all dolled up for the appointment.
I had the first tests and sat waiting for the drops to open up my retinas before seeing the doctor.
I get called in and he asks " How are you my dear" Yes he addressed me like some old lady.
Ha ha it did make me smile.
Well I had to go for another test which is where it got bad for me. I had a leak in my eye.
The treatment for this is a needle of some fluid injected into the white of the eye.
I am sure there are others here that will have had this done.

Doctor. "I need to do this injection to slow down the leak. Can we do it now?"
Me. Well I am here so lets do it. Will it hurt?
Doctor. " Do I look like a doctor who would hurt you?"
    Me. "I hope not."

Into another room and the anaesthetic went into my eye.
Me to the nurse. "You are not going to mess up my makeup are you?"
She did. It all came off with whatever they used to sterilise my eye.

He came in and produced a Syringe.
I could have done without seeing that. With the dressing covering my face I really did not see anything. Just the thought.
Up untill the contents of the syringe went into my eye. Oh the pressure.
I went ridged in the chair and did let out a couple of cries of pain.
I felt ok at first (I didn't pass out) but in the waiting room I became really nauseous and was sweating badly. I came good out in the open air with a breeze in my face.
I am not looking forward to the next injection in the New Year.

My mom gets those. They seem to help - mostly just slow it down. If there are any changes, see a doctor immediately. You need to react quickly to stop further worsening.

It sure doesn't sound like fun but going dressed like a princess must help the pain a little.

Ha ha Maria. I shall dress up again but without the eyes made up.
Bridget. The injections are the only thing that will help so I have to do it. Regardless of how it made me feel.
Jennifer you are right and it was precisely that I noticed a change in my vision that I went to see the specialist.

Philipa you are so brave! I just got back from an appointment with my retina specialist and he had explained that procedure to me. I think I turned green, I have spent the last 50+ years keeping things out of my eye no way a needle should be it. My getting ready for the appointment was quite different as I was making sure there were no traces of eye makeup. I know how it feels to not look forward to seeing the doctor, my wife drives me and we go out to eat to make it a bit special.

I was treated for macular degeneration for awhile. Took the shots... The works..

Several years later and qualifying for a study, I do not have md, I have something else. Bad news, same treatment.

The fear of receiving shots in the eye, did ease up for me. Hope it does for you too. Good luck, my dear.

    Hi Blue.
Philippa is my legal name and is on all of my documents. It was the "my dear" that caught me off guard.
    Vickie.
I have always looked after my eyesight but this was just out of my control and I must admit it is concerning. But like everything else I shall get on with it. What choice do I have?
    Kitty.
I had no idea what was going to occur or I would have left the makeup off my eyes. I guess I am not really brave as it was something that had to be done.
    Jamie.
Thank you for the well wishes.

Philipa Jane, starting in November, 2022 I've had 19 shots (3 in my left eye and 16 in my right eye) for macular edemas (leaking blood vessels) due to diabetes. I only need 3 shots in 2024. They will be a constant throughout the remainder of my life. When I don't need a shot, I get an 8 week reprieve between appointments with the retina specialist. If I do require a shot, then I return in 4 weeks. I thought he stuck his thumb in my eye on the first shot. Note, I am a wimp when it comes to my eyes. All the drops I get go on the inside corner of a closed eyelid. I then open my eyelid to allow the liquid to contact my eye. Anyway, after the first shot in 2022, I went home and took the next 4 weeks convincing myself if this is what will prevent me from going blind, it was time the adult me went to these appointments. The eye shots have not bothered me since. You can do this. Be glad medicine has the ability to treat these issues.
It's never too late to enjoy a happy childhood.
Live each day as though it's your last 'cause one day you'll be right.
I'm finding the more feminine side of me...and I ❤️ this adventure.

Sorry, but this thread has become more about the eye diagnosis rather than CDing.
