    That was a surprise...but I owned it

So, back in mid-May I had some basal cell & Squamish cell skin cancer removed from my face. I had 2 follow-up appointments with the wound specialist to make sure everything was healing properly. All was good. I also had a follow-up appointment today with the dermatologist that took the biopsies prior to surgery. I'm thinking I'm going in just for her to look at where the cancer was located to make sure all looks good in her eyes. The tech takes me into the room, asks a few questions and then informs me........we'll be doing a full body scan today so you will have to remove all clothing except your underwear. Also, remove your watch. I'll give you a "draper." She gives me the "draper" and leaves the room while I undress. When she and the dermatologist return to the room, I'm sitting on the exam table with the draper over my lap. However, during the exam she checked along my waist both front and back as well as both thighs front and back. Each of these times she raised the draper and lifted the edges of my lace panties to do her exam. Of course, she never said a thing and neither of them said anything about my glitter pink toenail polish. Today I wore black lace panties. Because she froze off 14 pre-cancerous spots on my face, left ear, both hands, and left arm, she wants me to return in mid-December for another exam. I've already decided I'll wear pink or lilac lace panties for that visit.

I'm glad my wife didn't go to this appointment as she often does (she likes to hear what docs have to say). I believe she would have been 100% embarrassed had she been sitting in the exam room when the dermatologist had me turn on one side and then the other, lifted my panties, and checked my butt cheeks for any signs of cancer.

One time when they handed me the paper dress, I said to the assistant, the dresses I wear are usually much fancier than this.

    Heather,

The doctor that examined me for skin cancer a year ago said "Who did your toes?"

When I said "The girl at the nail salon" he said "She must have small brushes".

A picture of the nail art is under the title "Who did your toes" on one of my threads.

He remembered that exam 6 months later and made a positive comment, but I don't remember what that one was.

I have a more interesting story involving going to the doctor fully enfemme in an emergency in a reply to KymG's post under title " Dressing Injuries"

I would have been so embarrassed, Heather!

I'm curious u said that "owned it"?
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

    Heather76,

    Wow. Just wow.
And to think I go to the grocery store and worry that my panties might show when bending over to get something from the bottom shelf!
    You're brave.

Good luck with beating back the skin cancer.

Simply meaning I was neither embarrassed or nervous. Panties and polished toenails are my normal so I felt normal in spite of the fact they likely thought it was not normal. But, I suspect you already knew that.

I went in for a full body scan one time and the assistant told me to strip down and asked if I wanted a gown. I told her "I'm seventy years old, nobody wants to look at this body".

This is the sort of thing that makes people look at our community like it's a fetish. They are medical professionals and do not have the option to consent to this. It's forcing something on them.

I guess if it felt normal it must have been alright but still in these moments we are still caught off guard and it sounds like you really did own it. A few months back I went to what I thought was blood work. When I got there the nurse told me I'm also doing a cardio gram test. She was putting all those sticky tabs all over my chest and then she reaches down to my pant leg to put one on my ankle and lifts my pants and sees the pantyhose and she just stopped and freezes but not in a shocked way but in a she didn't expect to see that. She pulled my pant leg higher to see if they were knee highs and then she asked if I wanted to remove them in case they get ruined. I just sat there sweating bullets and told her to just go ahead. I surprised I didn't blow up the machine for how fast my heart was racing.

Heather, I have had melanomas removed from my face and head. I also had a sister die from skin cancer. So I have the full body scan every six months. Since I exclusively wear panties at this point, I just own it as well.

Great story. I think I would have sat there stammering- trying to find an excuse to run away!

I, too, am on the skin cancer twice yearly inspections. My panties are not lacey, just plain cotton bikinis. I still can't work out why they want you to keep your underwear on, it's like they know for absolute sure that you can't get skin cancer around there. What about the backyard nudists who bare all for hours on end in the sun?

So, tell us, just how is this community supposed to act?
I've waited so long for this time. Makeup is so frustrating. Shaking hands and I look so old. This was a mistake.
My new maid's outfit is cute. Sure fits tight.
And then I step into the bedroom and in the mirror, I see a beautiful woman looking back at me.
    Smile, Honey! You look fabulous!

That?s something. Like many here have said, they?re pros so it should be no big deal.
A few years back I had a yearly physical. Previously, I would wear panties, then stop in the restroom at the medical building and change into one of the few pairs of male briefs I still had, and proceeded to the appointment, changing afterwards. That year, I forgot, so went in panties, but took them off and put on the ?Johnny?. After the exam , the doctor said I could get dressed and continued to talk about health concerns and vacation plans and what not. I was hesitant and again he said?we?re all set, you can get dressed?. I don?t remember what panties they were, but likely Maidenform , some color , with lace waist and leg . He didn?t say I word, but I?m pretty sure my face was a shade of red. At some point, some of us just decide to care about what others think a little bit less.
