Definitely 2 for me.
I would guess 90% 2 and 10% 3.
It's never too late to enjoy a happy childhood.
Live each day as though it's your last 'cause one day you'll be right.
I'm finding the more feminine side of me...and I ❤️ this adventure.
We are now into the third page of responses, and the OP has not even looked at the first one since asking the question.
Number 1 - 100% started at 4 or 5 years old. Best guess
But family, etc prevents full transitioning / full time dressing.
Wife knows arrived 47 years.
I really do not like it when something that is complex is suppose to fall into a certain check off box. It's like choosing what is behind one of the doors on a popular game show. I think each man and woman is born with some genetic makeup of the opposite sex in their dna chain. In some people it is more than somebody else. Perhaps, some external stimuli or a change in body chemistry prompts a change in behavior that is out of the norm of societal expectations.
I like the sexual kink one, sensation, fabric feel up, it all started there, but isn't it something much deeper that we could never understand, I have many Sisters and I had a good time with their make up but I never wore make up
Started out as #3, but as time went on #2 crept in also. Now I'm firmly somewhere between #1 and #2. I now carry a purse with me all the time and have a hard time not leaving the house in girl mode. It seems #1 is getting stronger by the day. Presenting as a woman is becoming more normal for me.

It is an escape. For a few hours, I put my stressful male life away and become someone completely different and carefree. No dysphoria, no kink, just a little peace and rest before entering the fray again. I enjoy the fray but I enjoy the escape also.
I?m new to all this never talked to anyone about CD , family would freak , daughters would not speak to me. Have lots of questions but No answers 😞 I kinda agree about just shutting off the Noise from being a Man and I like women?s clothes!🤭
Started as i child... now are my form of expression. Appearing to be a woman relaxing me and my soul.
I think that trying to fit everyone into 3 categories is very limiting. Admittedly, it?s a fun exercise, but really! I dress like a woman because it?s correct. It?s like when I was in the army.,I?d come home, remove my uniform, and put on civilian clothes. Male clothing is a uniform I wear to do certain things. I wear female clothing to relax and be myself.
What do I do on days when I don't crossdress? I have no idea.
Cynthia, I agree with both points, although I think the questions help to get a dialog going. I don't fit the given answers. I do think the uniform analogy is accurate.
To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. ~ Timothy Keller
Yes, Bea_, this thread has led to much dialog, and much self reflection. Both are good things. Some mornings, I stand in my closet looking at my dresses, trying to pick an outfit for the day, and I think to myself, "This is nuts!" But then I spot just the right dress and put it on. It’s good to reflect on this. It’s hard to put into words, but once I put on my wig and a dab of lipstick, I know why I do this. It’s fun, and necessary, to reflect on why.

I'm definitely #3 as I'm irresistibly drawn to female clothes (what I really mean is lingerie, with a preference for retro - may well be inherited from my childhood, looking at my mother undressed and later when I discovered the thrill of dressing myself in borrowed items!). Much pleasure from feeling the silky fabrics and the excitement of wearing garter-belts and stockings, soft and sexy panties and a comfortable bra! This hasn't decreased with age; quite the contrary, but to be fair number 2 is also very important: dressing up is always a release from all kinds of pressures and brings happiness. Also the escape from eternal masculine clothes, sometimes for hours and hours! When plagued by all sorts of hassles, dressing up is the only thing that really lets me "escape" and feel relaxed; totally detached from stressful thoughts.
I'm lucky to have a wife who's pretty tolerant, but know I must stop at doing full make up, hair, dresses and shoes. But I have to admit getting a huge kick out of dressing in as much sexy lingerie as possible and going out "hiding" inside my masculine clothes!
There you go; I've probably said much more than I meant to on the subject. I hope it gives some of you encouragement!![]()
All responses have been read and are still being read. There was a delay due to illness and hospitalization of a close relative.
Thank you for everyone's opinion.

"kink isn't bad, its just less accepted by society"
Its ironic- most everyone alive has their "Kink" but judge everyone else's harshly.
I like to cross dress to relax myself or goto my female side mode. Also, I do go outside crossdressed when weather permits and when I am home alone. In addition to that, I went outside as Wonder Woman and Super girl. To sum it up in a nutshell, I crossdress when I have time for it.
