My wife has always been very supportive of my dressing, starting from when I first told her a few weeks into our relationship a few years ago. We've often shopped together for femme clothes with me in guy mode, have taken an evening trip to Indianapolis with me dressed en femme, and she has helped me a lot with makeup and clothing choices, but we've never gone anywhere locally for fear of being identified. I don't get into full gal mode more than about once a week, but tonight was one of those nights while my unknowing son was at class and work. In addition, I was using it as a dry run for our upcoming trip to the IXE support group in Indianapolis on Saturday.
As I often do on these days, I got dressed and made up as well as I could for sitting around the house. But today she looked at me and started critiquing my foundation, commenting that it really was too light for me. Within the next ten minutes she talked me into taking a trip to our local Ulta for some quality beard concealer and foundation - with me dressed just the way I was in broad daylight.
I let her drive so I wouldn't need to worry about license and credit cards, and when we got to the store she was up front with the sales associate about my makeup needs, who then set us up with their makeup specialist Cori. Cori and my wife worked through the makeup options, showed me how to use them, and selected some items that really look very nice on me and do a great job with my all too heavy shaved beard. The items chosen were expensive, but my wife had told me to expect that for quality makeup. Cori was great, and told me to come back sometime to work on my eye makeup.
No one, including the first sales associate, seemed to notice that I was a guy until my wife pointed out my beard cover needs. That, together with the support of Cori and my wife, gave me even more confidence leaving the store. After shopping we decided that it was a shame to just go home, so we stopped at one of our favorite restaurants. If we'd had enough time we would have stopped for some pretty clothes for both of us, but we needed to return for my wife's meeting. Besides, we had already stretched the paycheck a bit too far for the night.
Now we're looking forward to our next adventure, going to Indianapolis for the IXE gathering Saturday. Just have to maneuver my son out of the way so I can leave home dressed en femme and made up, but that shouldn't be too hard.
One more round of applause for my amazing wife!
