I said I wouldn't post one of these again until after I came out to my oldest son. I traveled from Seattle to Fort Bragg to let him know. He has been in the Army for a year and a half and recently got married (6 months ago). He also found out his wife is 6 weeks pregnant last week. Needless to say, he Has a lot going on.

I picked him up at his apartment and drove to a park a few miles away. I started blubbering right off the bat and told him my plans. He said "ok." I also told him I was scared of his reaction. He said "it is up to me To tell you how to live your life...did you think I wouldn't still love you?" at this point I was shaking and it felt like a huge weight lifted off me. I told him he was going to have to come to terms with what this means to his new family and what interaction he wanted with me and his wife and child. He said "don't be stupid. I am not going to keep my family away from my dad regardless of how he is living."

Aside from some pronoun training later he did so much better than I could imagine. We drank some beers and played an old knife game I learned in the Marine Corps called Mumbly Peg. I then took him to pick up his wife and we spent that evening and the following morning together talking and getting to know each other better. It was a fantastic trip.

Wow Christy, you really couldn't have hoped for a better result because he was
the most difficult of people I could see that you had to come out to. But he sounds
like a very good kid with a good head on his shoulders. he will more than likely have
some questions & there will be other issues to deal with later, like how & when to tell
the grandkids. But those are issues you can worry about when you get to them. The
good news is that all is well on the home-front. So well done & congratulations.
It must be a tremendous weight off your shoulders & you must truly feel set free now. :hugs:

Sounds like the sort of result we should all have with family.

Sounds to me like your son got a lot of his character from his father. He is a credit to you.

Ha!...that would certainly make for a bad manicure! lol No, not this version...I never had the stones to play that game. This is one where you have to balance the knife tip on various parts of the body and get it to fall into a circle and stick with the handle up...first one landing from all the "parts" wins the game.
