I hope they don't use this test as a real indicator of anything.

The test is extremely stereotypical and, therefore, easy to "beat." The results imply that if you have a female brain, you don't know where sounds are coming from, you hate math, you love english and poetry, you are empathic, you can't park, you are great at reading faces and recognizing voices, you don't know directions, etc. If you want to be a "Top Gun," you should answer that you have thought about suicide and would rather be dead if you could never get to be a real woman. Oh, and that dressing doesn't really excite you.

By the way, I scored 545, classification 5. I should seek counseling immediately! But before you call the cyber-medics, this was just an experiment to score as high as I could.

I think that a good and valid psychological test should be one in which you don't know how every answer is going to be tallied.

A lot of you seem to take this test somewhat seriously, and really you should not. It is not scientific in any way and is largely based on the concept of "brain sex" stereotypes, which while amusing is by no means a reliable way of determining gender.

I am sure you can all think of plenty of tom-boyish women who, for example, have excellent navigational skills and visio-spatial awareness, but are no less women as a result, and there are plenty of effeminate gay men who are entirely happy with their bodies but are quite "female" in terms of brain-sex steretypes! Equally there are plenty of transsexual women who retain male traits. I have recently started to transition, but I will not change who I am underneath - I will still retain my few "masculine" interests such as science I expect.

Please, take COGIATI results with a large pinch of salt. If you feel your gender dysphoria is more serious than wanting to dress up then go get professional help from a specialist counsillor - no online test can give you the answers you seek.

I feel that I am of both genders, almost equally Yin and Yang. But we all should understand that this test is only skimming the surface of deeply rooted gender issues. It is not a conclusive test that ends all debate, accurately, once and for all, PERIOD! But it is a good place to start and get a feel for where you are at. And I think it's got me pretty well pegged. I'm comfortable with that.

Actually, some of those questions do indeed have some merit.

You see, when a male baby is born, the part of their brain that develops the fastest is the one that registers spacially. For females, it it the 'social' part of the brain that develops fastest.

Steryotypically, males tend to be better at catching things, because their brain registers the space between their hands and the object better. And if you remember, there was such a question. Also, there was a question about wether you could properly visualize something about a few shapes and colours and it moved in a circle, and it asked you where things were. That's spacial/visual intelligence.

Females also tend (steryotypically) to have more in depth friendships, they also tend to be more social savvy, more able to pick up on social behaviours and such, and if you remember, there were a few questions that asked if you think you would be able to pick up on such things.

There was more to that than you might have thought.

That test has no value. Go back and critically look at the questions. You'll see that many lack parallelism, have a bias one way or the other, or other technical issues of a poorly constructed survey. Play with the scoring mechanism. It scores the stereotype that women are not good and not interested in math and science and it also weights that men aren't good at written and verbal skills. Even more interestingly, it considers musical ability to be intrinsically feminine, yet music is basically mathematical.

If you want to make a gender expert laugh, ask them about cogati. It's not a scientific test. But, like the magic 8-ball, you can have lots of fun with it. Just don't take it seriously.

God, I was so scared taking this test! Really thought long before I took it, fearing it would come back telling me I was nuts for thinking I'm likely transgendered. But my COGIATI result value was: 460. Yikes! Pretty high on the "should be a woman" scale, I guess, placing me in classification five: a transsexual. No real surprise here...
