I had heard once that when out walking both men & women should put things to the outside. (Streetside). I guess that would always put your purse between you & your date. For the men, Right handed mostly, They than have their right hand free to grab, fight back or whatever if someone tries to take it. Don't know how true it is but thats the best reasons I ever heard.
