I was born in the early '50s also. During my impressionable years, I don't think that pantyhose were a Thing yet; my mother wore girdles with garters to support her nylons. Another influence for me, in addition to those already mentioned, was the Sears and Wards catalogs. I was looking at other things in addition to the Craftsman tools.
These days I find some items in the poundage store that look old enough to be from that era, notably slips that bear the ILGWU label.
